PPTP VPN only allows 1 user at a time
« on: June 08, 2009, 06:42:44 AM »

For some strange reason, our DIR-330 is only allowing one person on VPN at a time.  If another person tries to connect, the first will lose their connectivity and eventually be dropped from the VPN.  Then the second person is able to get on and work until the first person tries to reconnect and then the process repeats itself.

We have tried seperate usernames, but I'm really not sure what else to look for.  I've never seen a VPN connection act like this before.

We were running 1.12 but then I upgraded to the Beta firmware in an effort to solve the problem, but it persists.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Greg

Are both the clients connecting from behind the same NAT IP?

Nope.  All are connecting from different locations.

Are the clients behind NAT?

Is the DIR-330 behind NAT?

Do you have any meaningful log entries on the DIR-330?

All the clients are behind a NAT.  It's your standard user connection from a home ISP.

The DIR-330 itself does appear to be behind a NAT as well.  The ISP in this case gave us a 192.168.168.x IP which translates to a public IP somewhere upstream.  It is a one-to-one IP mapping and we have a static IP with the provider.

Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately the NAT on the DIR's side is almost certainly the source of your issue (It makes the incoming requests both appear to come from the same point [the NAT device]).  Any chance of getting it on a real public, if only for testing purposes?

Thanks for the tip.  We'll give it a shot and let you know.
