So this wouldn't be messy rather it would clean this menu up by eliminating this menu.
I sure hope so!
- Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
FW Update Process
Not before updating, as the official instructions both on the dlink youtube video and the Shareport link (dlink.com.au/shareport) don't mention factory resets, they only mention upgrading the firmware.
I did do a factory reset just before my original post though. It didn't help.
We only recommend using FW from regional areas so if your in the AU region, it's recommended to only use that regional FW in the AU region. Each region has different features and rules on how D-Link develops FW for each region.
The support link on the AU page does not list any SharePort software. Does that mean the firmware listed does not have SharePort support?
I only started looking at the US and DE firmware when the AU firmware didn't work.

What model is this printer? Mines and HP LaserJet P2014n
I've tried two printers - a Samsung ML-1660 and a HP PhotoSmart C6280.
The HP has Ethernet built-in but I only use it for scanning. It's the Samsung which I want to hook up to the network.
I don't think this experience should effect your thoughts about D-Link. I believe you have expectations of features that are not supported on this Rev model router, or information that does not apply to a Rev C model, with out fully understanding reasons why they may not be there and not understanding the whole picture.
Well ... the DLink website says the DIR-825 can share a USB printer. If this rev model does not support it, then the website should not state it.
This also maybe a printer issue as well as you have not established that your connection between the printer and router is good
OK I finally had some time to do more testing today.
I'm now suspecting the USB port on the router is dead.
I did the following:
- Factory reset, flashed the AU v3.00 firmware, factory reset again
- Did not reload any old config file as always.
- Did not configure any settings whatsoever.
- Plugged in a 4GB FAT32 USB flash drive which I have confirmed to be working on a PC
- USB LED on the front of the router does not light up
- Logged in to router, went straight to Setup, Storage. Ensured that Enable Web File Access is ticked.
- No devices appear under "Number Of Devices".
- Power-cycled the router with the USB device plugged in.
- Still the same - nothing appears under Number of Devices, and the USB light does not come on.
- Inserted an 8GB flash drive. Same thing happens, i.e. nothing.
Does that sound like a faulty USB port?
If so, I would have to get yet another replacement.
