How is the DIR-655 Rev.C?
« on: May 19, 2014, 06:27:20 AM »

Thinking about ordering on to try one. Seen a lot of bad reviews but  I know a lot are some just issues that can be fixed/wrong settings.

How stable has it been for a decent sized network?

I'm enjoying it...very stable. I tested it before. I don't know what it will do on your speed of ISP. Mines only 50/3. Works well on this ISP.

Ya, I take reviews with a grain of salt. Most user issues are mis-configurations or external environment related.

Just an update have not bought one yet been really thinking about it though. I think I had a Rev A once and it had some disconnecting issues. But Rev C specs are really tempting.

Any Real difference to pay the extra and get the 655 over the DIR-645 ?

It's being supported by D-Link as a current product. The 645 is getting into EOL and not much FW development anymore for it.

I found a Rev A4 at a 2nd hand store, got it for 10 bucks, no antenna and PS. I took a chance and tested it. Router worked. I found antennae and PS on ebay total of $20 bucks spend to get necessary HW. Ran it for a while. Solid router. Didn't update the FW.

So $59.99 :) Which the next Business Day Shipping might had been pointless as I have Shoprunner and could had got 2 day shipping for free. I would had got it Tuesday, Which I`ll prob get it Monday due to UPS/Fedex prob wont run on Saturday :/

I see that the DIR-826L is on sale:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127395

Not bad :) Lately NewEgg has been more expensive than everyone else on certain things. Amazon has the 826L for $43 :D

I don`t need dualband or anything like that just mostly need the good router part :p

Working Nicely:) I do have an interesting Issue which seems to ONLY happen with D-Link routers I`ve used/tested.

I cant seem to get QoS working properly. I`m using everything default except turning QoS on, and Putting my upload speed(a little/good bit under) Still Same issue.

Like Running Speedtest.net When it comes to the Upload test my ping will go from 16ms to about 40ms which is normal and fine. But Say when I go to Upload Something Via YouTube my Ping stays a constant 450-550ms which I cant deal with :(  Also the Same goes for Uploading Via FTP. I can limit my 2mb upload to only 1mb upload and when Uploading to YouTube or FTP my Ping will still jump to over 400ms QoS is indeed Throttling my Upload to just at 1mb BUT my ping shouldnt be this high, shouldnt be over 100max.

Anything I can do? The DGL-4500 , and DIR-826L I do know of does this as well.

What happens when QoS is configured.

Can you try this process and post your results?

You can read thru the thread and see if similar process have any effect.

Still shows the High ping, But wants weird is ANY IP or domain I ping using CMD its over 400ms while upload but normal when not. BUT Speedtest.net, Games, & world of warcraft show its under 100ms depending on the server. Speedtest.net will show 13ms to 150miles away, World of Warcraft Shows 69ms(Normal) But CMD ping command shows over 400ms to 25miles, 35, miles and 200 miles away, So I`m really not sure whats causing this, only happens on these D-Links BUT its not affecting the acutal ping only CMD ping commands.
