How to get 300Mbit wireless?
« on: November 03, 2007, 11:57:48 AM »

So i've got the dir-655 rev. A2 with FW 1.11eu
I've got 3 wireless notebooks connected:
2 with a 3945AG card (54G)
and 1 with the 4956AGN card (up to 300mbit)

However i am not able to get any faster connection speed than 130Mbit, even if i am standing next to the router with no obstacles inbetween. The router is on the 20/40Ghz setting and i am checking speeds via TASK Manager > NETWORK tab.

Am I overlooking something? i understood this combo was capable of settings up to 300Mbit?

I can get a 270 with a 552 card that is upstairs from  655 Router.  Running N only and WPA2 for security.  Have 1.10 firmware on router and 1.30 drivers on card.

I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago too, and the DLink tech support was unable to resolve it after spending nearly 1 hour over the phone with me. I ended up reset my router to the default and redo all the config from scratch. I got 300 mbps afterward, for all three of my laptops.

Suggestion: reset your router back to default, be sure to set it to "N Only". Give it a shot.

Thanks, i am running WPA2 only (AES, no TPIK) howeveri am running 20/40Mhz and G/N mixed mode (since i have 2 54G laptops and a PS3) i will test with N only to see what happens then.

What is the max speed that you guys can get in a mixed mode (G/N) enviroment?

I'm running WPA2 on my system as well.. for G/N mixed, I got 54 only!!! So, I stay away from it. :-)

I guess the best way to find out, is to give it a try. Agreed?

What are you using to test the Bandwidth?

Another way you can validate your connection speed is through the routers web page.  On the Status page click the Wireless link on the left hand side and this will tell you what you are connected at.

Log in to the router, check the channel width under the wireless settings. Ensure that the router is set to 20/40Auto mode. That should help.

I echo of what Lycan has suggested, the 20/40 setting is very important.
