So when I set my DNS manually
Primary DNS Server: 4.2.2.1
Secondary DNS Server: 4.2.2.2 (optional)
and
Disable DNS Relay
and
Set  - None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP

I get the following DNS passed
4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
71.10.216.1 (my ISP dns)
71.10.216.2 (my ISP dns2)

There is only 2 DNS boxes to fill out so why is it also passing the ISP DNS servers as DNS 3 and 4?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

This was a known issue we saw with the 645 and 865L. I asked about it and didn't really get a solid answer as to why. IT didn't seem to effect any thing or cause any problems.

Hardware Version : A1
Firmware Version:1.04 Mon 19 May 2014
USA
Charter Cable
Modem
Model Name: SB6141
Vendor Name: Motorola

My ISP hijacks the DNS so I would rather it not be a fallback

Is DNS Relay enabled or disabled?

Ok, the router should be using the 1st 2 DNS addresses you input...even though the 3rd and 4th are being populated.

I found a solution for myself since DNS server 3 and 4 are passed through. I was able to turn off the redirects from Charter's ISP by turning off "Charter Web Helper" at http://search.charter.net/prefs.php
