Hi all,
I own a DIR-655 D-Link router (Revision A), and a Samsung Galaxy s4 smartphone (Specific model is i9500).
It's widely known (At least in this website) that there are some compatibility issues with those 2 devices.
Here is the thing, I've upgraded the router to the latest 1.37 FW, and after reading the Release notes of the FW, I was hoping that everything would be fine.
Here are the Release Notes: Improved compatibility issue with Samsung Galaxy S4.
But, while the connection seems stable for basic usage such as Web surfing and Youtubing, I came across the same issues I had in the older FW.
While trying to upload images to Flickr and Google+, whenever I try to upload images the connection drops and the router's Web interface becomes unavailable for 15-20 seconds- It seems that the router crashes.
WMM is off, tried to toggle UPNP on and off.
Also I've done some searching here in the forums, and tried some suggestions such as setting the uplink speed manually in the QOS setup page, also tried to disable QOS. My ISP Internet plan is 15Mb/800Kb.
Wish is enabled.
MTU is at defualt of 1492.
Connections is ADSL (PPPOE).
In order to further investigate this, I've tried to do the same using other smartphone (Galaxy S5) and got the same result.
I've also uploaded 600 images (2GB in total) from my laptop computer to Flickr, wirelessly, and this time it went perfectly.

I will note again, other than the images upload issue with the smartphones, everything else is just fine, torrenting, port forwarding, Web.

Does anyone have an idea? Please guys....

Wireless Configurations

• Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
• What wireless modes are you using?
• 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
• Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
• Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions.
• What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.

Temporarily disable all WiFi security, do another upload with the device. Does it happen still?

• Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.
• If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
• Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again. (Needed for Rev A model DIR-655 routers and it's management page.)
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Hey there and thanks for the quick reply.
I'll go through your suggestions, but just wanted to add more info.
I noticed something strange that was not happening in the previous FW. Whenever the router reboots either manually or randomly (Randomly is the problem) , once it boots back up I get the following message as shown in this link: https://www.flickr.com/gp/128241269@N06/3688nS , in addition when I go to any of the web browsers in my computer I get the following page as shown in this link: https://www.flickr.com/gp/128241269@N06/t803X7

Once the router is connected to the Internet (Takes normal time after the boot up process) these messages have no meaning because I can go to any Web page or any other Internet resource, but those messages are annoying and I wonder if that's nornal.
Just for your information, I've tried few factory default resets and Hard reset but the same messages keep turning up.

Seems like this is a Flickr/router issue maybe or something in the browser...

Does this happen on ALL devices or just the one PC? Have you tried a different PC?
Is Advanced DNS and DNS Relay disabled on the router? Look under Setup/Internet/Manual and Setup/Networking.

Hi,
The problem is only with 2 Samsung phones, the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5.
As I mentioned there is no problem with Flickr and PC, and I tried few PCs.
Normally 5-6 devices are connected to the network, 2-3 PCs, and 2-3 smartphones.
I don't have the Advanced DNS option (Had it in the older FW), and DNS Relay is enabled with my ISP's DNS servers entered manually in the connections settings.
I've tried to use the S4 and the S5 on other networks with different routers and it worked perfectly...
I'm gonna try everything suggested and reply back.

When you updated FW, did you factory reset, load the .bin file, then factory reset once more and then set up from scratch and not load any saved config file?

The v1.37 fixes an issue with Samsung.

Disable DNS Relay and Set Advanced Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP. Reboot all devices and router.

Hello,
I own a DIR-655 D-Link router (Revision A),
I've done many many tests, tried many combinations of settings and still same problem, so frustrating...
Here is a short reminder to the issue I've been having:
Router crashes soon after I start uploading images to Flickr using the Flickr app on my Samsung Galaxy S4.
My connection is ADSL, 15 Mb DOWN/ 0.8 Mb UP.
After testing the same thing on other smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S5) same result, the router crashes in few seconds.
I've tested both Samsung phones while connected to 3G connections and it worked perfectly.
I've tested both Samsung phones while connected to other router such as the D-Link DIR-615, and the result was great, no crashes.
Tried the same on my PCs and it worked great, also on other smartphones (Nexus 4) it worked great.
I'll note again, that is the only issue, all wireless devices on the network work great, and I'm blasting the network with Web surfing, video streaming, Port forwarding for torrents on all devices at the same time and it is all stable and no connection drops, really stable, the only issue is with the Galaxy smartphones and Flickr, and (sometimes with Google+ when trying to upload images).
Before upgrading the FW to 1.37, I've reset the device using the button at the back panel, I did not reset the device in the GUI.
After the 1.37 was loaded well, I've performed reset to factory defaults, then I've set everything up manually from scratch and no config files were loaded.
Here are the changes I've made according to the suggestions given:
Before I started the testings I've cleared the Port forwarding rules.
WISH - Disabled - Router still crashes
QoS Disabled - Router still crashes
Under Advanced-->QOS Engine-->Automatic Uplink Speed: disabled - Router still crashes
Under Advanced-->QOS Engine-->Manual Uplink Speed: set to 512 - Router still crashes
Tried MTU 1492 - 1482 - 1472 - 1462 - Router still crashes
Enable DNS Relay was enabled, I've disabled it - Router still crashes
Under Setup-->Internet-->Manual Internet Connection Setup: I've deleted both DNS servers that I've previously entered manually - Router still crashes
UPNP was disabled - I've enabled it - Router still crashes
Under Advanced Wireless-->WLAN PARTITION: was disabled and I've enabled it - Router still crashes
Under Advanced Wireless-->WMM: was disabled and I've enabled it - Router still crashes
Under Advanced Wireless:-->Short GI: was enabled and I've disabled it - Router still crashes
Under Advanced Wireless-->Extra Wireless Protection: was enabled and I've disabled it - Router still crashes
Under Firewall Settings:Disabled SPI - Router still crashes
Under Firewall Settings: For UDP and TCP I've selected Endpoint Independent - Router still crashes

I'm really hopeless and frustrated, I cannot afford a new router right now, and really want to solve it, are there any more actions to take?

What region are you located?

What happens if you disable WPA security on the WiFi as a quick test.
Test WiFi on G mode with out WPA.
Test WiFi on single mode N with out WPA.
Test WiFi on G mode with WPA/TPIK only.
Test WiFi on single mode N with WPA2/AES only.

Any of these work? I presume if none of this works, there maybe a compatibility issue with the Samsung phones and this Rev A router.
