DIR-655 stuck on establishing and won't let me change IP
« on: December 11, 2014, 06:59:57 AM »

I was able to do this one time, and one time only and can't remember what steps I did. I've watched vids on YouTube lol, even from dlink themselves saying all you have to do is cline Mac and save and that's it, I've also tried changing Mac manually and saving etc. Every time when it then reboots it's stuck on "establishing" for network status, 45 min now and still "establishing". Only way to fix it is to completely redo the network setup when this happens which is a pain and then IP is still the same anyway. I'm on a board where some of us do group buys and share so usually multiple multiple link uploads and don't want to deal with the wait time, other guys say they just change their IP after each link download. Am I misunderstanding something, or is this more complicated then I thought lol?!? I have comcast if it matters. I did the clone Mac other day and it worked, downloaded a file right after, however that never worked again.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?

Most ISP like CC don't or shouldn't need to be Mac Cloned. Maybe the ISP process has changed since you did it last time. Just DHCP is all thats needed.

sorry for delay

Router:
H/W A4
F/W 1.32 NA
router connected by ethernet to modem but no computers connected directly (all wireless)

ISP:
Comcast high speed cable
Modem -> UBEE DDM3515
Assuming its Dynamic as under router settings I have it set for that

I got it to work again other day, but no clue what I did again, some combo of playing with settings and manually resetting each modem and router but thats a pain in the azz as then I have to redo everything. Not sure what I'm missing lol, as the vids online and even from dlink say to just clone MAC or change it manually each time and save and should work as many times a day as you want. But when I save settings, and it goes to establish connection it just hangs forever till I disconnect and reset router etc and then it will establish connection but under the previous IP.

  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on a Router

However I think yours is a stand alone modem.

  • WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

Mine shows an IP of 73.49.80.### under WAN, under LAN is the 192. IP I know and how I log in to the router.

So I guess the question is how do I change IP address then so I don't hit the stupid "this IP has already downloaded a file please wait 120 min or 4 hours or 24 hours etc" lol.

Where are you seeing this message at?  ???
Like in my other post I mentioned I'm involved with people doing group buys for products and software like for business etc, brings the cost down far cheaper. Problem is files are so big their generally uploaded and split into many files, some as much as 20+. I've bought some "premium accounts" at uploading services but don't work all the time. So say a file has 5 parts uploaded, after I download the 1st file and go to download the 2nd the site will say this IP has already downloaded a file please wait 240 min before next download (or various like that, sometimes a day etc). And then sometimes say that same 5 part split, I'll download 3 over the coarse of the day waiting hours watch time, and then it'll say you've reached your max downloads for the day and to wait 24 hours.

The few times I somehow figured out how to get the IP changed playing with Mac address and resetting modems and routers let me skirt that. Problem is I can't remember what the heck I did to do that. The videos like I said even from dlink say you can just clone the Mac to change IP, or change a number and save, but that doesn't seem to work, it'll just hang on establishing.

Got cha..ya, the WAN IP address would probably need to be changed. Sometimes power cycling the ISP Modem OFF for 30 seconds will get a new WAN IP address from the ISP. That would depend on there IP address lease time policy and such.

Tried again today, left the router and modem unplugged over night and just re-connected. Nothing changed, same ip etc. Went to download another part of a file and it said "this IP has already reach max downloads for the day" which I hit yesterday and 24 hours won't be up till later on. I don't get it lol, everyone online and videos makes it seem to so easy to change IP in like 15 seconds, yet for some reason I can't figure it out. Dlinks own video says to change IP, change your Mac 1 letter, save, and thats it you have a new IP. Doesn't work for me, or a friend when I asked him to try lol.

Gotta be an easier way. The few times I did this, have no clue what combo of steps I did from releasing the IP, unplugging, resetting etc. last time it took like 2 hours and work, wish I remember what I did.

The place you are downloading from is seeing your IP from the ISPs modem/router.  This usually does not change that is why you are seeing the error message.

Ya you have to wait for the time out or find a way to change your ISP WAN IP address. Sometimes not easy to do.

Good Luck.
