connection not stable, anyone else have this problem?
« on: November 06, 2007, 04:27:56 PM »

so i just got my dir-655, ive connected my comp with the router through Ethernet cable, every 30 min or so, i would get disconnected and when i look at the router, all the lights go off except for the power light, and all the lights come back on in about 3 seconds.  anyone else have this problem? and i no its not my ISP's problem because if i connect straight to my cable modem, i do not have this problem

You might have a defective router. It's not normal for the lights to go off and on periodically. Since you just bought it new, return it and get another one. You will be rewarded with a very nice and functional router.

2.4Ghz phones near the router? Sounds like it could be rebooting. If not then yes, I would suggest taking it back to the point of purchase for a new one.

I was having a tremendous amount of problems with this on my router.  As a last resort I did a factory reset on the unit and put my settings back in manually and it's been up for weeks now with no disconnects.
When I first purchased this router everything was working great and then a new firmware was release (1.04 I believe) so I updated the firmware and then after that was completed I uploaded my old settings and then bang it started to crash over and over.  I've had this same result with all subsequent releases of the firmware and each time I upload my old configuration file the router would inexplicably crash after a certain amount of time (it varied).
It's a real pain to have to go in and manually make every change one by one, especially with the number of reboots it wants to do after some of the changes.

As an FYI I also had this happen after making a configuration change and right after the restart it began to crash again, once again I needed to go in factory reset and manually pump in all the settings including the Enable WAN Ping Response change and it was fine

Since updating the Firmware to 1.10 I have not needed to make any changes so I don't know if this issue still exists for me or not and I have no plans to test it  ;D
