Multiple IP addresses showing up, Please Help????
« on: December 26, 2014, 06:37:08 PM »

Hi Guys,

I was installing a DTV Cinema Connect Kit to my router and ran into this;  I kept using their interface to find my router and it wouldn't show up.  Then it aksed me for my network name and I put that in along with my password.  It kept telling me the password was not correct even though it was.  Finally, after numerous attampts I tried connecting it using the WPS mode and that seemed to work.  when I checked my device staus it showed up too.

Here's my question;  I noticed a bunch of IP addresses starting to show up, all the same 192.168.0.15 series with the last three numbers  all between 115-168.  It's about the number of times I tried hooking it up the other way.  Is it possible that all my previous attempts finally went through or am I under attack with all these IP addresses showing up?

Regards,
Hans

Ya it may have gone thru and you should maybe set up IP reservations for one device at a time. You might want to disable WPA security temporarily at first to see if you can connect the devices, reserve the IP address then turn ON WPA security.

What security mode are you using? Try WPA at first then try WPA2. Possible that your devices don't like WPA2.

Thanks for your reply, glad to see you're still here.  Right now, I can't even access my router with its IP address.  There is one device working, my TV, but nothing else is because of the IP confilicts.  Last time I looked under device info, there was a list of IP addresses starting at 198.162.0.135 through 198.162.0.199 but no MAC addresses.

Just 4 out of my devices showed up and they had MAC addresses.  My other three devices didn't show up because of all the other bogus IP addresses. How can I get out of this mess? Will reseting the router help?  Should I delete the router completely and start over?  I was only able to respond to your message by bypassing the router.

The IP addresses on my PC's have changed too.  I think it best to start completely over, is that possible or is the router too smart for that?  Thanks for any help you can provide me.

Regards,
Hans

Ya, I'd turn off ALL devices, fully! Accept for one wired LAN PC.

Factory reset the router with the one wired LAN PC and do a reservation on it under Setup/Networking. Save Settings and reboot if you want to. While the router reboots, turn on the next device and do the same thing, reserve and save settings and reboot. Graduate turning on the next device and reserving addresses.

That seemed to work, thanks.  Is it safe to assume that by doing a reservation on a device's IP and MAC address it will insure that it won't get bumped off by somethings else, in effect making that device more stable in its setting in the router?
