Before buy 320LW
« on: January 26, 2015, 07:30:22 AM »

Hi all,

I have just two questions before buying this product.

First : All addons for 320L working with 320LW?

Second : Can I host a website or only a webpage PHP?

Thanks for all.

I just need to host 1 webpage only. Do you think the nas is too slow for this?

And I want to use this NAS for share photos with my family or friends.

I will install 2x 2To with raid1 and I use also for share in my LAN (photos, documents...).

Maybe after I install cloud on this NAS if I can.

This is very cheap device, has powerless processor and not enough memory. Firmware is full of bugs, and no one in D-link is interested to help users. You will find very fast that without alternate software is almoust useless... But,and it's great side, is very cheap.

Of course, the Mods can delete this post, cancel my account and block IP. But the best help for all who looking for the NAS that make them happy... is not to buy it. Look for other mfgs, maybe you spend more money but... it will work well.

Would you elaborate on what bugs are in the FW?

I wouldn't say D-Link isn't interested in not helping users. There is community help along with phone support that we always recommend using. D-Link is always interested in helping users and fixing "bugs" if they have been able to reproduce in there labs. First line to finding bugs is troubleshooting and problem reproduction.

I would say that the 320 is an entry level NAS device as was probably designed around that market. If you don't think the model is sufficient to your needs or build for performance or speed, then maybe you picked the wrong model. There are several other models that have better performance and speeds. I presume that the 320L is similar in nature to low end DIR series routers, manly good for the average home users that wants little hassle in configuration. Just basic needs in setup and off you go.

For advanced users then you may need to look into higher end models for speed and performance and feature configurations. There is a reason why there are several model DNS to pick from. I's up to the user to review and ask questions before buying. Users should not presume anything before buying any product.

That is why I suggested to think twice :) D-Link should use the "Entry level" in the PR materials, insted of using "the best choice".

You mentioned the valuable help from D-Link helpdes - what you mean? Not answering hard questions or answer like "in the future version of software"? A lot of proposals and bugs were discussed on THIS forum - and what it changed? Almost none of them were applied in the "new software". And every version has new problems... . But now we can use add-ons... almost all useless because this device is not enough processor power to handle them.

Yes, I realize that this is only the users forum, not the official D-Link board. But it means that I will say it twice and louder : THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BUY THIS DEVICE.

It's up to users to review and research and ask questions before they buy based on there needs and information they find either from online review, specs or online forums. It's up to users to interpret the marketing information that is posted about products. Just because "Entry Level" may or may not be seen on a marketing ad doesn't mean that users should or should not avoid anything. Users need to review ALL of the information before buy to make the right choice. I presume may if you had done the same maybe you might have made a different selection or bought a more appropriate model DNS to handle your specific needs.

Users are encouraged to ask questions here or directly with D-Link before buying to gain any and all necessary information to decide on an appropriate product to buy that meets there specific needs.

Pre-sales Support
A:
If you have pre-sales questions regarding D-Link product specifications, product implementation and compatibility or information about new D-Link product releases, please contact our Sales department for further assistance at 1-(800)-326-1688  (Options 1-2)  between the hours of 6am to 6pm Pacific Time, excluding major holidays.

This is a official D-Link Forum, ran and officiated by D-Link. While posting issues in this forum is a great means of sharing information with other members and notifying D-Link of issues, D-Link escalates issues for resolution based on the volume of calls received through the official D-Link support desk. If D-Link receives a large number of calls pertaining to the same issue, that issue is more likely to be escalated as a problem for investigation and resolution. As such, in addition to posting issues in this forum, forum members are encouraged to call the toll free D-Link support desk to report their issue: 1-888-851-6464.

We are volunteer help for D-Link and here to help out with set up and problems that are posted by users here in the forums. If we can not resolve those issues here or if there are problems with anything beyond our capabilities here in the forums, we ask the users please contact phone D-Link directly for continued help and information. Problems with HW/FW and documentation fall under this reasoning as we do not have the ability to effect any changes. As for D-Link support, if they don't know what customers needs as desires are then it's kind of hard for them to make improvements to there products with out someone helping them out and telling them.  It's the users responsibility to help notify D-Link support of un-resolved problems and concerns they have, that we can't fix here in the forums.

Good Luck.

Prospective consumers should also keep in mind that generally speaking, the price point for the ShareCenter line is lower than other competing brands. That said, the price-to-performance/functionality ratio should be taken into account when performing comparisons. ;)
