Trying to Name Groups and Change Permissions/Ownership on Files

I want to create a group and then change permissions on files within the NAS.  For example, I want to create a group called "family" and do the following:

chown -R family:dad /Volume_1
chmod -R 774 /Volume_1

How do I do this with the DNS-321?

The reason that I ask, is that I added about 600GB to the darn thing with Global R/W, and now I want to lock down permissions, but there appears to be no way of doing this without a shell account.  When I simply changed the Volume_1 permissions to R/O, I lost access to nearly all of the files.

I have the access back now.  Had to restore the Global R/W and reboot, but I am uncertain of how to proceed.

Create Users and setup the Network access rules with your users.

Our support site has many FAQs for this setup and many others, it is quite helpful.

Just be aware that when you add new users, you will lose the Global R/W again.
