Hello,

I have just upgraded my Netgear D6300 AC1750 to a D'Link DSL-2900AL Viper, Ever since when ever i
am playing any games online my ping is consistently jumping from 30 to 400 back and forwards.
On my previous netgear it was consistently staying at 30 to 40.
I have been playing with all different settings on the modem though i can not workout what is causing my issue.

I have a Media Server setup in the house which i have had running for the past year and have devices almost every day streaming
on the 2.4ghz and 5ghz, Even with multiple devices streaming i had no issues with my previous modem. The QoS does not seem to
be doing a good job at all as i prioritised my gaming notebook.

Can i have any recommendations or is anyone else experiencing the same issues?

I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For DSL or Fiber service lines, ensure that the ISP is using good working phone or cable lines to the DSL modem and that the phone lines are filtered correctly. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

You might check the User Manual for QoS settings and set up a QoS rule to help in gaming. D-Link phone support will have more information regarding this as well.

I have done several different troubleshooting and have found the issue to be with the 2.4ghz causing the lag when
anyone else with a 2.4ghz device is streaming from the local server. I am in a house that was just built 2 months ago.
Brand new ADSL 2+ line was run when installed, I only switched from my old AC1600 Netgear modem/router a week ago
without this same issue in the same situations.

I get 20ms latency and 20mb/second on any tests. Once i have someone streaming on the 2.4ghz
to even ping my local connection 192.168.1.1 has time outs. Some reason its not handling it though
the new AC1900 should be better then the AC1600.

Did the modem come loaded with v1.00.12? Or did you apply it after getting the modem?

What devices do you have connected to the 2.4ghz radio?
Have you tried streaming from the 5ghz radio instead if you have any 5Ghz supporting devices? 5Ghz is better suited for streaming and gaming.
Is the local server wired or wireless connected to the modem?
Do wire connected devices exhibit the same problem?

• What wireless devices do you have connected?
• Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.
• Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.

There are plenty APs around and that was the main reason I bought the latest one hoping an improvement in performance, now it turns out to be worse that our whole internet keeps getting stucked when the laptops are connected.

I also noticed one laptop with 5Ghz also causing the same problem and not limited to 2.4Ghz right now.

I will try to play with the modes later as I need to go to bed.

Edit: On a side problem, I could not login to mydlink from the modem to register the product, not sure if its even relavent

You maybe in a wireless congested area...
Channels need to be reviewed. Find a open and clean channel to use, 1, 6, 11 or 13 is preferred if open and no body else is using them...

Set up the mydlink.com account first on a PC and web browser. Then use the wizard onboard the modem to associate it to the MDL service.

Internet Explorer 7 or higher (32-bit) - Add mydlink.com to the "Compatibility View" exceptions list.
Firefox 12 or higher
Chrome 20 or higher
Safari 6 or higher (Mac OS only)

Pretty sure they are all occupied (~10 APs around)
The thing is it should only affect the wireless devices (like in the past with my old Dlink modem), but now with the new 2900AL all my wired desktops connection are having big troubles.
I did exactly the same way to link mydlink,  then:
Login failed. Please contact Technical Support for further assistance. (Error code: SIGNINERR004)

What happens if you temporarily disable both radios and test the wired PCs, still happens?

• Try setting Medium or Low power output settings and test again if this option is available.

Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

As long the wireless devices are not streaming, wired PCs are perfectly fine.
Will try the power and mode options tomorrow.
I just feel a bit let down when I have just decided to experience the top tier router for the first time, and it turns out I need to fix these problems that I never seen before.

Maybe there is a QoS rule that may need to be set up then as seen here for DIR series routers:
Gaming and QoS for XBL

I presume the UI on the modem differs however.

This is a MODEM, not a router, even though it has a router built in.

After few more days of observation, I deduced that the problem lies within OneDrive uploading.
My ADSL2+ has a narrow upload bandwidth like 125KB/s only, just happened that those laptops need to sync few hundreds MBs of files and eat up all the bandwidth.
The QoS does not help on this issue though, maybe there should be a firmware upgrade for more control options in QoS for 2900AL?

I see that the QoS engine UI is the same as here:

If so, then put the device(s) that don't need much bandwidth into the lower priority section. Put your gaming device into the medium or High section. Save settings and reboot the router. I recommend setting up reserved IP addresses first before setting up QoS.
