Folks

Is this issue resolved? I have been having same issue.  I have DIR 655 Ver A4 - 1.32NA.

I have Time warner Cable ARRIES modem. I'm connecting that to DIR -655 (WAN) port and it gets connected at 100Mbps only.  I have done following.

1)  Try to update Firmware to 1.37 but upgrade does not take place for some reason. Release note does not indicate any significant issue related to this issue past 1.32NA
2)  Disabled QOS and changed WAN port to AUTO to 1000kbps
3)  Reset DIR 655 to factory setting.
None of these so far worked.  Any help/pointer to resolve this issue.

Thanks

What is the model # of the cable modem?

What CAT version of cable are you using between the modem and router?

Try manually downloading  the FW file and update the router using IE or FF.

What is the model # of the cable modem?
TOUCHSTONE TELEPHONY GATEWAY TG1672

What CAT version of cable are you using between the modem and router?
CAT6.  If I connect computer directly to cable modem , I get 1g connectivity. I connect cable modem to another router/switch , I get 1g connectivity but with DIR-655 , I can't.

Try manually downloading  the FW file and update the router using IE or FF.

I did and it does complete w/o any error. but version still shows up as 1.32NA.  but my understanding is , upgrade will not fix the issue as the issue I have been having is not listed in release notes.

Please help with the resolution.  Has any one with A4 hardware have 1G connectivity with this router?

Ok, so putting my A3 loaded with v1.11 online is showing 1000Mb on the WAN port. I tested this out with Windows 7 x64 by looking at the status screen for the NIC and saw 1.0Gb there. I then manually set WAN port speeds from 10 thru 1000Mb and saw each speed after it was set. I connected the WAN port to my GB switch and it's reporting a 1000Gb speed as well. LAN ports report 1Gb for them as well.

What Mfr is the PCs NIC adapter? Mine is Nvidia chip set.

Possible that you may have an incompatibility modem, bad cables or the 655 maybe faulty. I presume a possible incompatibility with the ISP modem.

Ensure the ISP modem is in bridge mode if you use the 655 as the main host router, if not then you can try this:
Turning a router into an AP.

I posted this via my pc connected to the 655 A3 connected to my Gb switch to a main host router then out the ISP Modem (SB6121).

Thanks again for your response.  Not sure if the issue with A4 hardware. OP and I both have A4 hardware.  I have several compute with Intel 1g NIC.  All these PC ( Windows 7 ) , can connect with 1g speed when connected directly to cable modem or other 1gb switch I have.  So I can definitely rule out the issue with PC.

"Ensure the ISP modem is in bridge mode if you use the 655 as the main host router, if not then you can try this:
Turning a router into an AP."

Can you tell me more about this ?  Do I have to have cable modem in bridge( i.e. switch ? ) mode?  I have cable modem is configured as router as it uses separate network ( 192.168.0.x ) and my DIR-655 has separate one ( 192.168.1.x).  I have all the devices in my home connected to DIR-655. I keep my security devices ( also from TimeWarner Cable ) connected to cable modem as they require it.

Thanks for your help thus far.

Check the NIC adapter settings. Try setting the NIC to 1000Mb on it's link speed setting.
Any chance you have a older PC that you can test?
Can you connect a Gb switch to the LAN and WAN ports and check for link speed?
All A model routers supported Gb connections. Only thing I can think of is that maybe the HW on the router is not compatible for some reason.

What ISP Speeds UP and down do you pay for?

300mbps

>Check the NIC adapter settings. Try setting the NIC to 1000Mb on it's link speed setting.

Where do you set this on Windows 7?  As I mentioned, when I connect to Cable Modem , I can get 1gigE speed. Also, I can see that  1g connection established in Modem's config page. When I connect a cat 6 from modem to DIR-655 WAN  or LAN port , it shows only 100Mbps connection.

BTW, Do you have A4 router?

Mines a A3 even older. Test there router with a different ISP modem and see if the problem follows.

I presume that if all you have done and still can't get the router to do 1G on the WAN then maybe it's time for a new one. Seems that this is only seen with a few users. The Rev A isn't developed on any more so I presume rev As are EOL or headed there already. There are other DIR series routers out there that work well. My rev B and C 655s work as well.
