Guest Zone connects to internet, main network does not
« on: June 29, 2015, 02:09:20 PM »

DIR-655, hardware version B1, firmware version 2.11 NA; machine 1:  Windows 7 pro 64 bit; machine 2:  Windows Vista; iPhone: iOS 8.3, old iPhone iOS 7.1; iPad iOS 8.3.  Arris SURFboard SB6141 modem.  NETGEAR N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender (WN3000RP).

I've searched these forums but can't find this particular issue.  Sorry if there are already threads.

Several weeks ago, I reconnected DIR 655 after trying POS Xfinity modem/router Comcast "provided."  DLink router was working fine.  Then last week, the Vista machine wouldn't connect to the main network--"Windows cannot connect to XXX."  But it does connect to guest zone and to the internet.  That machine can also connect to extender network and internet.  Now today, Win7 machine will connect to the main network, but no internet.  Can connect to guest zone and extender, internet on both.  On newer iPhone, only the guest zone and extender networks even appear in WiFi settings.  Older iPhone connects to main network and internet.  Turned WiFI off and on several times, main network still appears with internet.  Turned WiFi off and on several times on newer iPhone, only displays guest and extender network.  Turned phone completely off and back on, no main netowork.  On iPad, turned WiFi off and back on, main network reappeared with internet.  Turned WiFi off and back on, main network disappears.  WiFi off and on, main network with internet reappears.  All devices are within 10 feet of router.

Any idea what the issue might be?

Link>Welcome!

Is the current ISP modem the Xfinity modem/router or the SB6141?

Disconnect the Netgear Extender temporarily while testing...
Swap LAN cables too. CAT6 is recommended.

Thanks for the quick response!  I'm using the SB6141 and brand new CAT 6 cable.  Turned on the Win7 machine this morning and the main network has returned with internet.  Same on iPhone.  If things get flaky again, I'll try disconnecting the extender and then the factory reset.

Thanks for the advice.
