Recorded video playback on IOS apps issue
« on: November 05, 2015, 07:48:56 AM »

DCS-5222L Rev A.  Firmware 1.14b, iphone 5C mydlink Lite 3.5.1, ipad air mydlink+  3.5.1
I’ve had this camera for a while but not previously recorded locally to microSD.  It would appear that I’m unable to play back recordings through ios mydlink apps. From the apps the preview icon in the play tab/menu is blank and when I try to play recorded clips the screen just goes black. It is recording as the recorded video clips play ok once I transfer them to a PC. I’ve tried changing resolution & file types but no joy.  All other functions including live video work ok.
I also have a DCS-2332L & 2330L and video plays back in IOS apps fine with these other cameras. Is this a known issue specific to 5222L revA or am I doing something wrong ?.   Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I’ve established that my issue is related to the MicroSD card.
I tested a 2GB card I pulled from an old phone and found it plays back video flawlessly in both ios apps.  I’ve been trying to use  a newer Transcend 16GB microSDHC Class 10 card which seems to record ok but is causing playback issues from ios apps.  I’ve tested the 16GB card with the H2testw tool and it formats without issue using a card reader in a PC but it always fails to format in the 5222L (which I understand is key to getting it working properly).  I’ve tried stopping recording and formatting from ios apps and the PC GUI browser interface but it always fails.  I’ve concluded that there must be some sort of incompatibility issue with the 16GB card. When I have time, I will try swapping a card from one of my other cameras to see if they work.

Review the support site or user manual for any supported or suggested SD card types. If you can't find any information, I recommend phone contacting D-Link support and ask them specfically which model SD card to use. Keep us posted.

My initial video playback problems were using a Transcend 16GB card which failed to work with either app or format in the camera. I suspect that it was a faulty card so have discarded it and tried several other cards including an unbranded  2GB, a Samsung 32gb and Dane Elec 16GB. These all formatted ok and record video that plays back from the Mydlink Lite IOS app on an iphone.  I can’t however get any of them to play back on the Mydlink+ app on my ipad. I thought initially it did work with the 2GB card but must have been mistaken.
So I’m coming to the conclusion that my issue is with compatibility of  the 5222L rev A camera and mydlink+  (as it works ok with my other cameras).  Can anyone else confirm that they can playback recorded video from a 5222L rev A to the Mydlink+ app on an Ipad without issues please ?.

The solution for me was as follows :-
Close all apps open on the ipad,
Delete all dlink apps,
Fully power off ipad
Reboot  and reinstall dlink+ from the app store.

I can play back all recorded video fine now and as far as I can work out everything is working as it should.
Hope this helps anyone that experiences similar issues now or in the future.
