30 or so days then I lose wifi devices
« on: February 23, 2016, 02:53:58 PM »

Hello...

Not the exact same router... but almost the exact same problem. ..

Dir655: last couple months... every 15 - 20 days i have 1 device that wont aquire an ip address. Yesterday it was my wii U, 17 days b4 that it was my wifes phone. But other devices work fine... its very strange. The only way to get the device to aquire an ip address is to reboot the 655.

This is my favorite router, ive gone back to this one after trying a dir 860 and 827.

I just tried turning  off mac filtering.  Thinking maybe for some reason the 655 thinks this is one of the mac addresses i have blocked. I guess i will wait and see if it makes a difference.

The other thing i was gonna try was turning on the "always broadcast " in the dhcp settings

I have tried the usual stuff.. factory reset.. reloading FW...

Its not a big deal... but im in the same boat as radubn... once a router is setup properly... i think it should just run... and very rarely need to be rebooted.

What channel is the router set to?

Seems like your in a idea environment so the router should be experiencing any issues.

One thing I might do if this is seen again, download v2.11 or 2.12 and do the following, factory reset the router, manually load the FW file. factory reset once more then set up from scratch. Don't load any saved config files.

Does the router feel over warm or hot?

Router is set to channel 3.  Its not being used by anybody but me.

When i moved 2 years ago i did a factory reset... reloaded 2.11 ... did another factory reset and set up from scratch. I  also did this again about 6 months ago when i went back to this router.

I was unaware there was a version 2.12

Router does not feel warm or hot

Please switch channels to 1 6 or 11 as all other channels are not primary and are sideband channels used by the routers wifi drivers. Set channel 11.

Interesting... I didn't know that. I was under the impression to just use a channel that was open.

Should i still use 1, 6 or 11 even if one of my neighbors are using them?

Thanks for the info

If the signal from your neighbors is very low then you can use the same channel.

made it 14 days... and just now my laptop and wii u all of a sudden cant connect to my 2.4 wifi...

wii u error code is "could not aquire an ip address."

but my phone (galaxy s6) connected is to the 5ghz access point (dir-860l), and its working fine, and the galaxy tablet is on the 2.4 wifi also working fine.

tried my work phone (galaxy s5) and it wont connect to the 2.4, or 5ghz, it fails to aquire an ip address.

i manually configured the ip address on my laptop, it connected and is working fine.

I will try manually configuring the wii u... when my son is done playin video games

so something is messed up in the dhcp server...

all i really have left to try is enabling "always broadcast" in the dhcp settings

or i guess i could set static ips for the devices that dont leave my house...

What channel are you using on the 655? 860L?
Are both 655 and 860L radios going at the same time?

might turn OFF the 2.4Ghz radio on the 655 and enable it on the 860L and see how it does.

might turn OFF the 2.4Ghz radio on the 655 and enable it on the 860L and see how it does.

with that setup the 655 would still be in control of  the dhcp...

I dont know if that will solve my problem...

Yes, if your still using the 655 as the main host router then it will control the DCHP.
Is the 860L running as a 2ndary AP?

Do you have reserved IP addresses set up for each device on the 655?
