Unable to forward ports
« on: February 26, 2016, 09:32:14 AM »

I've spent the last 8 hours trying to get this to work. I've set up DHCP reservations for both computers ive tried on and i am not forwarding the port to the wrong internal ip.  I've tried a multitude of ports but they're all close according to "portforward.com"'s port checker. I've tried forwarding and testing of 2 computers and neither worked once. I've probably tried doing this in the past about 5 times or so but ive never been able to forward a single port on this router. I was able to forward fine on my old one though. I'm thinking of just giving up on this router and get a new one, however maybe i have overlooked something. Could anyone help me?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
  • Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.

I have the DIR-657 which to my understanding is basically the same as the DIR-655 in everything but looks. I ran into the same issues when trying to use port forwarding and found that I had to set up everything to do with port forwarding under Virtual Server.

I had always been able to Port Forward with the DIR-655.  I forwarded one TCP and two UDP ports for a specific amateur radio software which it wouldn't work without the Port Forwarding being done.  I reserved an IP on the router for my laptop computer and Port Forwarded to it.  Wish that I could explain beyond that.

Also when using PF rules, uPnP should be disabled as well.
