Just as an update -- before I went to bed last night, when I posted my last post, I restarted the livingroom camera.

As mentioned, it was fine...this mnorning it is down again.....no connection at all....pings "unreachable". Green light is on steady.  WHen I ping it, it sends 4 packets and gets back one.....says its unreachable.

So, what I just did (6:09 am before work) is swap out the basement 5222L with the livingroom 5222L......both are currently up on DCAM , I can access the livingroom camera (10.0.0.152) via browser, and the same camera pings fine. WIll watch it hrough the day via mobile and see if the problem follows the camera or not....if not, its the location affecting the camera.....if it does its the camera, or its associated connection I guess right?

**UPDATE 040716  825am est:
Well, about two hours later, the 5222L is offline again, in its new location (sitting next to the router).  The one that was in the basement (sitting next to the router) is now in the lovingroom and it is still online...so I do not believe it is a WIFI issue......  Not sure what to do at this point.  I guess I can go thru the rest process for the failing cam....but this is getting old.  What causes this to begin with? Any other things to try?

So the swapped camera that was working in it's old location that you swapped with the one that seems to fail is still working ok?

Seems like the problem camera is tracking to it's swapped location and probably needs to be RMAd. I would phone contact D-Link support and ask about this. Let them know what you did and you seem to have narrowed it down to this one camera.

Well, it gets better.

I checked on the cameras all day off and on, via my android app.   One of the 933L cams did "disconnect" briefly but came back......the one that had acted up in the livingroom location and was moved to the basement location had disconnected as already mentioned...but the others stayed connected all day.....

Until I got home and checked again.

The 522L that was working fine all day ALSO went out sometime this afternoon.  So now BOTH 5222L cams are disconnected on MDL, on DVIEW, neother are reachable by ping......the one that had failed earlier has a solid red light now.....the second one still has a solid green light.

Luckily I also talked to the store where I bought the first 5222L.....the store will extend me store credit for it, even though its out of the return period, given the steady stream (no pub intended) of problems.   I hadnt been sure whether to take advantage of that or not at first....but getting home and finding the second 5222L ALSO dead?

I think its time to return everything and cut bait.  I had to be "beaten", and I know some folks here claim their cameras work great.....but I have been messing with this for almost 3 months.........it should not be this crazy unreliable.

Thanks, Furry Nutz for all your help (it hasnt been clear if you are DLINK or just a normal user).....The package of what these cameras are advertised to offer is VERY nice and attractive......but there are so many flaws with the advertised features it really is very frustrating.....

I could have lived with the two way audio basically being useless.

I could have lived with the SUPER SLOW meovement of the camera relative to control input.....

I could even deal with the dead-out-of-the-box ones......

And I realize that some of the issues could be "user error" or "environmental issues".

But the least these things should do is stay online for more than a few hours or days at a time before needing major attention.

I aimed for WIFI cams because it promised to not be time consuming and difficult what with wiring etc a hard wired camera.....

But in that effort, I have instead had to spend HOURS AND HOURS playing with resetting, reinstalling etc EVERYTHING, on the phone with DLINK (who do not seem to know how to do anything but wlak me through a script and then at the end say its a defective unit) and my cable company trying to chase problems in the rest of my LAN that dont seem to exist, or at least are not a problem for every other wireless device I have.

I dunno.

Like I said, I feel defeated.....I REALLY wanted these to work.

But sometimes you have to cut bait and row the boat to shore and start over on another day.

Let me see if I can get some additional resources on this. Seems to inconsistent here. I understand the frustration. Let us see if we can figure this out.

Don't have much to offer except some basic trouble shooting.

Can you remove the extenders and put the cams in the same run as the router and see if it holds connection everywhere for more than an hour or 2(like a day? )

Then do the same test,  add in the extenders in the same room?  See if that holds or drops out in the same room.

When I have my old ipod  touch 2.0 on, it knocks some of dlink cams offline.  Check your router logs for errors.

When having problems with a wireless device, the first basic troubleshooting step is to connect a wire.  If you can, take one of your cameras and connect it to your router via an Ethernet cable.  If you have to move the camera close to the router to accommodate whatever length of cable you have handy, do that.  Turn off the wireless settings on the camera so that it is connected via Ethernet.  Then let it stay that way for a day or so, and monitor it for stability.  If you're still having issues, then we know that you have a hardware issue (less likely in my opinion) or a local networking issue (more likely).  I have a hunch, though, that it will be fine, and thus that your problem lies in your wireless network and the use of extenders.  But let's try the cable first to eliminate a few things.

Thanks for this.   However, I had tried a whole bunch of things.   True I did not leave the cameras hooked up very long via cable....but I didnt buy cabled cameras....I bought them to be wireless....

I had already swapped the various cameras for others at the store, tried various locations, channels, etc.....extenders on, extenders off.....in the end it is just too much hassle.

The DLink product , to me, was the most attractive one in the store.....the list of features were awesome for the price.....however, the features didnt work.

The two way audio NEVER worked right, on three different cameras....

Two cameras I had bought (one 5222 and one 933) was dead out of the box.   The others started off great and then degraded.

ALl 3 of the 5222 cameras I tried has a distinct "burning electronics" smell to them.....that made me uncomfortable and maybe an indication of some design issue that caused the slow degradation of performance wirelessly? Dunno.

I have returned the 3 cameras I bought to the store for store credit.  Thank God I wasnt out the cost of the 5222.

Guys (gals), I really gave it a good shot.....but running around in circles for 3 months was ENOUGH>   I love gizmos that work.....but I didnt plan on making the upkeep of a camera system at my house ad full time hobby.

And honestly, by the number of "open box" specials at the stores I visited, the fact that SOME cameras had labeling from 4 years back and some were new, and the very mixed bag of results you get when googling these cameras, I do not believe I am in the minority.

Thanks to you folks for your help and suggestion,s but I am waving the white flag and going cabled.  LOL
