I have my DIR-655 setup as my main router. With a linksys wrt54g connected acting as a bridge for my media center.

Just about every day, video playback on my media center from videos over the network start to lag and becomes unwatchable. I have to manually reboot the DIR-655 in order to get the lag to go away. Rebooting the linksys / media center / whatever doesn't fix the problem. Rebooting the DIR-655 fixes the problem every time.

Is there anything I can do in the settings to prevent this? Is there any way to schedule a reboot every day at 2am?

So, upgraded to 1.32b3
Disabled DNS relay.
Setup QOS & WISH priority for my media center.

Still, nothing. I have to reboot my router just about every day to maintain performance.

I've never had a bridge so I'm really not sure if my suggestion can be done but give the linksys wrt54g a static IP like the dir 655. say 192.168.0.2, Qos is a good Idea but tries to control to much ( in my opinon causes the lag ). As long as the ip is outside the scope of DHCP you should be fine.

Yeah, it's 192.168.1.2 already. Turning off WISH & QOS, I'll report back.

I think a lot of us are having the same problem since last firmware update. Maybe a new update will fix? Not exactly holding my breath.

I have the same issue, I have a blu-ray and netflix player combo hooked up wired on my network, and I have noticed that I have to reboot the dlink router everyday so that I can get better speeds to watch my netflix movies.  I have the DNS turned on, on the router, but have had to manually configure an IP for the blu-ray player to get it to work on the internet, not sure why but really haven't looked into it.

I saw in another post someone requesting that when dlink comes out with another firmware upgrade they put in a way that you can configure that router to automatically reboot at a certain time of day, as this would be a quick fix to most peoples problems.

And a messy one too - they should really just fix the bug that is causing it. It is now a major issue for the router and I am very surprised it isn't being focused on as the number one issue. A router that a good percentage of your user base need to reboot dail SHOULD be a major issue.

Also, the reboot will cause all sorts of problems for my systems here.

The problem is that not everybody is effected  by this, thats why its hard to fix.  I haven't had one issue with mine (A2 Hardware).  I have had it since October 2007 and have used every beta firmare that has been posted from that date.

One wired PC, One wired Network Printer, 2 sometimes 3 wireless PC's and a Wii wireless.

I have several wireless devices. A DD-WRT bridge, Roku box, Internet Alarm Clock, Mac Laptop and a Dell laptop. In addition I have a Dish DVR and desktop. These are some settings I have found that work well for my situation. I turned off features that seem to be buggy and worked on the wireless until I got something that worked with everything I have.

Updated operating system files and network card drivers are important. Go to windowsupdate.com and download and install all available updates. Reboot and do it again until no more updates are available. In particular, look for available network card drivers and check those in the hardware section.

Make these settings on the router

Under Advanced --> QOS engine --> QOS engine setup
Uncheck Dynamic Fragmentation

Under Advanced --> Advanced Wireless -->Advanced Wireless Settings:
Uncheck Short GI

Under Advanced --> Wi-Fi Protected Setup
Uncheck enable

Under Advanced --> Secure Spot
Uncheck Enable Securespot services

Under Setup --> Internet --> Manual Internet Connection Setup:
Uncheck Enable Advanced DNS Service

Under Setup --> Network Settings --> Router Settings:
Uncheck Enable DNS Relay

Under Setup --> Network Settings --> DHCP Server Settings:
Check Always Broadcast

Under Setup --> Wireless Settings --> Manual Wireless Network Setup:
Set 802.11 Mode to Mixed n,g,b
Check Enable Auto Channel Scan
Set Transmission rate to Best (automatic)
Set channel width to Auto 20/40
Set Visibility Status to visible

Under Wireless Security Mode set:
Security mode WPA-Personal

WPA Mode WPA2 Only
Cipher type AES
Pre-Shared Key is required

I actually followed jpm67's advice and knocked down some settings. And I haven't had the slowdowns since.

I think I had turned off most of those extra settings before. Just speculating, but it might have just been me changing from "TKIP and AES" to just AES. Since I think that was the only item I hadn't had setup before.
