no 2.4GHZ devices, i have a DECT6 phone nearby.

i live in an apartment building with other wireless routers, but mine is far from the others, in a room with thick concrete walls and is on a different channel.

it sits on top of my computer next to my vonage adapter and cable modem.

Putting wireless routers next to any other communication equipment, large power supplies, or large metal chassis is not advised.

Putting your router on top you your computer will cause problems, so will next to your modem, while we are at it better safe than sorry with the Vonage TA too.  Just make sure you have a couple feet between all these devices and your router will love you for it.

Get it off of your computer, the power supplpy from your machine can cause poor wireless performance and reboots. Look at relocating the unit to somewhere where it will not recieve strong interference.

Great minds think alike.

And so do we!

It has been 1 week since I moved my router to an elevated position away from all other electronic devices... i just looked at the statistics and they dont seem that good:

Wireless Statistics

Sent :    2676604    Received :    2620967
TX Packets Dropped :    5555    Errors :    81906

Can someone please suggest something else before I decide to chuck the router?
Thanks

DIR Rev C, designed to work with Vista, Latest firmware - 3.08, released 2/12/08
DIR Rev A Latest firmware - 1.09, released 11/29/06 - before Vista was live..

Rev. A appears to have been abandoned as far as support goes - while you could say that its a price you pay for being an eary adopter of the new hardware... that isn't always accurate - retail stores are still selling the Rev. A model, I got my router from Best Buy last month, and its Rev. A - any chance of updated firmware that works under the latest 802.11n draft specs sometime soon?

I second that.  I just bought a DIR-625 within the last month, and it too is h/w revision A1.  If the specifications have changed since the last (ancient) update, some new firmware would be appreciated...

I have a little outside of the box question for you ahc11, are you experiencing poor performance due to this packet loss?  Do you experience this level of packet loss with other routers?

I just re-read the thread and for the life of me I don't see any mention of having performance issues, other than reading the statistics and becoming concerned.

packet loss is unavoidable in a wireless environment unless you live in a vacuum.  Anything that interferes will cause devastating packet loss, however this packet loss is not always noticeable to the end user, wireless is fairly fault tolerant.  And if your difficulties are solely interference caused packet loss that does not even cause performance issues I would let sleeping dogs lie, if it does cause performance issues I would continue to look for the interference.

Unless there is a problem with the current firmware version, D-Link is not going to arbitrarily just release code. If there is a problem with your device we can attempt to trouble shoot the unit, and then D-Link will determine if new firmware is needed.

Well, how about releasing proper driver code so we can use the N class network cards with Vista 64? Lots of complaints on the various n-class network card forums that you've been ignoring... some generic drivers have been found to work for XP x64, none for Vista yet

Sounds like the unit died. I would contact Support and seek an RMA.

Here is a concept... Release a patched firmware version to correct simple functionality issues.

How about releasing a firmware update for Rev A to be able to use the parental website controls.
Instead of blocking everything unless its on the list.
Then to add insult to injury, you only have 40 websites you can enter onto the allowed list. (Last time I checked, I think the Internet has grown to a few more than 40 websites)
Another insult to injury, you need to add EVERY single website that is hit to build a page.
Example:
Visit Yahoo.com, the web page is comprised of several other websites content. if those other sites are not on the list, the Yahoo page wont load properly.

I opened a case over a year ago to get no answer on this, other than go away. (See image)
Same thing they have told all Rev A owners since they don't release any firmware updates for Rev A, But Rev C gets patched.

The 1.09 version is... Broke
