GO-SW-5G connects at 100Mbps
« on: February 16, 2017, 09:44:05 AM »

I have a Netgear AC1900 as my main router, and  I am using the GO-SW-5G as a breakout hub in another room that I just purchased.  The D-Link is nice and small and doesn't generate much heat at all ... however it will not connect to the AC1900 at gigabit speed.  Prior to using the D-Link I had another Netgear router set up as an ethernet hub, and it connected to the AC1900 at gigabit line speed.

So why does the D-Link switch run only at 100Mbps?

In addition to the AC1900, I have it connected to a Denon AVR-1912 home receiver and a Sony BDP-x600 series 4K upscaling Blueray player ... is the D-Link using only 100Mbps because these other devices are limited to 100Mbps and therefore the switch has no two gigabit connections to connect, and therefore dropping it's line speed to conserve power?

Just trying to understand how this device works.

Thanks.  John

Welcome!

What region are you located?

Swap out LAN cables. CAT6 recommended.

Try connecting a PC that is Gb supporting on this NIC adapter. Will it connect at Gb speed?

This is an unmanaged switch so any speeds should be see if the connected clients adapter supports 1000mb speeds.

Thanks for the reply --

I just figured out this morning that one of the RJ-45 plugs going to my in-wall cabling wasn't pushed in all the way (cheap eBay cables ... still rated properly but poor plug construction).   Once I pushed it in all the way it popped into Gb link speed :)

Sorry for the false alarm ... but it just goes to show, cable quality matters!

Thanks.  John
