Mine is always flashing too. I think the only cosmetic flaw of this product is the lights. They are way too bright.

A flashing status LED indicates a working router.
This is OK.

I Agree. Took some blue tape and stuck it into the housing's front side. Much better now  ;D

Why did you roll your eyes? Is it because I have a preference that you do not relate to, or care about? How open minded of you...

The blue lights are too bright in my darkened living room/home theatre, while watching a movie. The fact that one of them pulsates, makes it even worse. If the room is completely dark, the DIR-655 is as bright as a night light. A caveat that should be noted for anyone placing this router in a place where lights will be annoying.

I am considering the same thing. What kind of blue tape did you use? Painters (masking) tape?

I took usual tape as electricians use it, bought it in a do-it-yourself market here.

D-Link has had a flashing light which indicates "Situation Normal" for over 10 years (I know my DI-524 has one too). I guess this was a consultation for the fact that the engineers couldn't provide the CEO with sharks with frickin' laser beams on their head.   ;D

Next thing you know, they will incorporate a buzzer that alarms... just to tell you everything is fine. Oh wait, they already have. I hear the fan on the DIR-685 is so loud, you can't even hear a TV over it!

Do you have it 30" right in front of you? If not I can not imagine the lights being too bright that much that it irritates you. You're supposed to look at the big bright screen when computing...  ;)

My solution was to put the router where it is inconvenient to get too, this makes it hard to see as well. While "hidden" the light level is much lower. Not a perfect solution...
