I never said it was "definately needed". Just said that what works with my configuration and my cameras. Never have has any connections issues like what you see with yours.
Unless your seeing issues with your system when uPnP is abled, you can keep it enabled. it takes a lot of have someone try to hack or do anything to your system from the out side if uPnP is enabled. Not everyone is trying to hack your system. Most hackers are not really interested in most home routers. Nothing that would bring them any value. There after big businesses.
Have you tried a friends phone or ipad with a different mobile carrier (install MDL and log in with his account) and see if it works. If it does, your phone may the problem. If not, prob a networking/router issue.
