Droping wireless on my imac

   Okay, here the situation I have a DIR-655 connected via ethernet to my pc downstairs and connected wirelessly to my Aluminum Imac upstairs in my bedroom. I got the 655 because i wanted an N router and have really good signal all over our house. My imac gets like 13mps on wireless N, with 50% connection. That is strange, I upgraded the firmware to 1.32NA but it didn't help anything really. My Imac disconnects about every 15 minutes, this is extreamly annoying. Yesterday I brought it downstairs in the same room with the router, honestly its not the far, and I thought this router could handle like 500 feet according to the box.. Anyways, right next to the router it obviously got full connection (130mps,100%) I have tried everything I could think of, unplugging the modem, the router, upgrading the firmware etc. Someone help. im tired of dissconnecting all day !

well.. the environment can be a major factor.. how many walls is the signal trying to go through? are there mirrors? what type of walls? is there metal, bricks, or dry wall? cordless phones, other wireless networks?

On the other hand are the wireless drivers for the laptop up to date?

Try switching the DIR-655 to G only (no N).  Some Aluminum Macbook users have complained about poor range when using "N".  Google it, you'll find lots to read...

I read somewhere it is an issue with the chipset that apple uses. Are you on 10.4 or 10.5? Try looking at Apples website they may have an answer.

I actually live in an older home, I am not sure of what the wall are made out of, but I previously has a DIR-615 and it kept my imac connected better to the internet then the DIR-655, which i find strange because we payed a good price for this router so it would work the way it should

Are you using interference robustness when connecting wirelessly? Try turning it off.

Also, Try setting your DNS server addresses to 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1

"It reduces wi-fi range and strength, I think. You only need it on when someone's using the microwave, which isn't continuous. Leave it off by default."

I it found under the Airport Connection in the menu bar.

I could not find the option, and from my research the interference robustness is only an option for when your using an apple branded router (airport extreme)
