With 1.07 en 1.08 beta hibernation (set at 5 min) doesn't seem to work. My DNS-323 temperature never goes below 44 C / 111 F. So today I pulled the network cable to check if anything on my network was keeping the NAS awake. After 6 hours its still at 44 C. So I presume the disks never spin down. Can anyone duplicate this?

It works for me (both 1.07 and 1.08 beta) did you reset the unit to default after flashing?

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

Did a reset and pulled the cable. No services (itunes, ftp) or add-ons (BT) enabled. Next morning it is still at 45 C. How do you get this thing to sleep? I have two WD Caviar Green 500 Gb in RAID1.

For a minute I was wondering what the heck hibernation & temperature had to do with one another.

If you want to know whether the unit is in hibernation or not - just look at the front panel lights - if the D-Link logo/power button is backlit, it's active, if the logo is dim, it's hibernated - get the idea?

Now let's go back to my question - did you reset the unit to default after flashing the firmware?

Yes, went to default, pulled the cable, logo will not dim.

About temperature: I have the NAS in a cupboard were I can't see it. So looking the temperature is the easiest. It seems quite obvious to me that at a temp of 45 C the device is not sleeping.

Do you have any further suggestions?

Ok it now works without network cable. Will have to search my network what is keeping it awake.

As a matter of fact - yes - are your elevated temperatures the result of the unit not hibernating - or - the result of operating it in a closed cupboard with no proper ventilation?
