Another shareport issue...
« on: July 29, 2009, 07:56:31 AM »

  Hi,
I've just bought this router yesterday and so far it's great! I only have one little issue... obviously related to shareport, but I think it's different from the other ones...

Basicaly, shareport just doesn't detect the printer driver on my laptop... If i click connect to printer, it just stands there and does nothing. Also, if I want to use the automatic printing connect, disconnect thingy... when I click configure, a little window pops up about some device manager and stays there forever...

Any ideas despite the numerous problems shareport is experiencing.??

BTW, the printer driver is installed!  ;D

What have you tried already (you can search the forum or Shareport topic)?

Many things but mainly:

1. Reinstall shareport
2. Reinstall printer drivers
3. Reboot router
4. While configuring the automatic printing option, while the laptop is trying to find the printer, disconnect the printer from the router and plug it directly in the laptop so it could be recognized...

This is pretty much it. I really have no ideas whatsoever. I guess I wait for the next firmware...

Just a reminder, there is TWO different types of shareport.

One of them is for the firmware 1.21 or prior

the other shareport program is for firmware 1.31 and above.

keep that in mind. :)

I have firmware 1.32NA so I'm using the most recent build.

As for the message, I currently have the program installed in French (thus, the missing translation), but I'll reinstall it in English and see what it gives me.

Thank you very much for your interest in my issue.  :P

I can read/speak French, if that's any use?

All right then so here it is :P

''Vérifier si le gestionnaire de périphérique est installé. Veuillez l'installer s'il ne l'est pas déjà.''

Grammar mistake in the first word... D-link should correct this in the next build...

So I guess it could be translated to:

''Verify if the device manager is installed. If not, please proceed to its installation''

I pretty sure they're talking about the drivers but I've installed them twice...

???

Yep, it asks you if the drivers are installed for the peripheral device (=printer).
If they are already installed, do not reinstall. There is a possibility you are using a printer which has an abnormal driver config. What;s the make and type?

It is an HP Photosmart C4480 but shareport detected the drivers right away on my wired desktop computer...

So there's something with your network connections on your wireless device I guess.

I can connect perfectly to the router using the laptop and my PS3, the only issue really is shareport.

However, many problems seem to have plagued the program after fw 1.30 so maybe everything will be fixed in the next build...

There's one thing a program cannot solve: A windows network conection that, although it works,  is corrupt. And in some cases this might very well be the case without you knowing. And trust me, I've professionally worked with Windows from version 3.1 and up and I've seen loads of corrupt network configs that work but do not allow other things than that.

Just trying to say that it's easy to put Shareport in the middle, but don't rule out the Windows factor.

Any ways to solve that? Because it seems shareport cannot detect the printer driver, I can perfectly see the printer in available stance in the program though...
