Thanks D-Link
« on: August 08, 2009, 06:22:28 AM »

Not one minute after installing the new firmware did the bank repossess my house, my wife divorced me, my girlfriend broke up with me, my dog died, my car got stolen, I got fired for spending too much time posting to this forum, my kids disowned me, I got arrested for selling narcotics at a nearby elementary school, I got a pimple, and I put on 10 pounds. Thanks D-Link. Thanks for ruining my life.

Too much time on your hands or lacking other social interaction to pass the time?  ;)

He's funny because let's face it, there are least a dozen people on this forum who post messages like "Because your stupid router doesn't work correctly, I'm calling the Police/FBI/CTU/MI5/Attorney-General of my state!!!"

I mean honestly... it's just a $80 computer peripheral. What about those people who buy $25k cars which end up having huge reliability problems and leave them stranded in the middle of nowhere? Like VW, Ford, Chrysler, GM... :)

I haven't yet had a serious problem with my DIR-655 but I'm also still at version 1.11 firmware. Now if I were to have a serious problem with my DIR-655 I'll do the same thing I do with any other bad hardware vendor experience - chuck it in the garbage and never again buy a piece of electronics from that vendor. In this case, I'd go back to Linksys. :)

I feel the same way. The issues I've had with the DIR-655 caused me to get a Linksys WRT-310N v.1 and flash DD-WRT on it. Since then I've been running perfectly with no wireless issues and (GASP!!) no freezes every 5 days. I still troll these boards to see if there is a new firmware that will make my DIR-655 a good backup router. So far I have been sadly dissapointed.

I know 3 other people with D-Link N routers: 1 with DIR-655, 1 with DIR-825 and 1 with DGL-4500. The only one that has not had issues is the one with the DIR-655 and that's only because he's at firmware 1.11 and refuses to upgrade. The other 2 have had the same issues as reported in the boards for those products. Like me they are choosing to vote with their wallets and have decided to buy their equipment elsewhere.

With 100.000+ units sold this is not really shocking. Have a look on the Linksys forum and you will find the same issues...Nevertheless it's a pity it didn't work out for you.

That little quip just put you on the hit (without the s) list. Your name's going right to the "reportyourfamilyfriendsneighborsandd-linkmembers@hitlist.gov" email inbox. Guess we won't be hearing from you again.

Firmware 1.32na will re-write your hard drive. Not only that, but it will scramble any disks that are even close to your computer. It will recalibrate your refrigerator's coolness setting so all your ice cream goes melty. It will demagnetize the strips on all your credit cards, screw up the tracking on your television and use subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you try to play.

It will give your ex-girlfriend your new phone number. It will mix Kool-aid into your fishtank. It will drink all your beer and leave its socks out on the coffee table when there's company coming over. It will put a dead kitten in the back pocket of your good suit pants and hide your car keys when you are late for work.

Firmware 1.32na will make you fall in love with a penguin. It will give you nightmares about circus midgets. It will pour sugar in your gas tank and shave off both your eyebrows while dating your girlfriend behind your back and billing the dinner and hotel room to your Discover card.

It will seduce your grandmother. It does not matter if she is dead, such is the power of Firmware 1.32na, it reaches out beyond the grave to sully those things we hold most dear.

It moves your car randomly around parking lots so you can't find it. It will kick your dog. It will leave libidinous messages on your boss's voice mail in your voice! It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve.

Firmware 1.32na will give you Dutch Elm disease. It will leave the toilet seat up. It will make a batch of Methanphedime in your bathtub and then leave bacon cooking on the stove while it goes out to chase gradeschoolers with your new snowblower.

...but it will be all better because tech support gave me a case number.

(my apologies to the anonymous author of the 'Goodtime' virus spoof, and in reality I'm still PO'd)
