Add blank drive to existing unit for RAID
« on: August 13, 2009, 02:46:58 PM »

hello all.  I have a 321, updated to newest firmware at the time (1.04 i believe?) and a 1TB Hard Drive which is now populated with data.

my goal is to put another drive in the NAS and set up RAID 1 mirroring.

question: is it possible to setup RAID 1 (preserving the data that's already on the first drive) by adding a blank drive into the unit?  or does RAID configuration require two blank drives?

i did place the first drive in the right slot as i read that is slot 0.

Yes you can. When you insert the new drive it will prompt you to format the newly inserted and and provide the option to create a RAID1 configuration with the existing drive.
