connection to home LAN network

My home network is based on DSLmodem/router with only 10/100 ethernet.
I also have 1 GB switch which I use to connect my PC's with router.

I would like to give my NAS static IP, so to gain this I need to plug NAS directly into router, or I can  use advantage of 1GB switch and still have static IP?

You can plug it into either the router or switch. Static IP is not affected by the switch.

If your PCs are 10/100/1000 then plug the NAS into the switch with your PCs so file transfer from your PCs to the NAS will be a 1Gbps. If you connect it to the router it will only be 100Mbps.

Its recommended to use a static IP address and a external Gb network switch with DNS.  ;)
