802.11 N Standard
« on: August 25, 2009, 02:17:17 PM »

I read that the new 802.11 N standard will be accepted in September 2009. Will D-Link be incorporating the new standard into the DIR-655 firmware? Will it have anything close to the throughput that this new standard is capable of? Thanks.

Speed: No because the current 'N' hardware/chipset is simply not capable of (theoretical) 600 Mbps.
Incorporation: Yes

If I understand the final standard correctly, the router needs to transmit & receive on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels for 600mbit to work.

The WNIC also needs to have support for the same bands.

Not really - there are already chips with 450 MHz in one band. The standard is defined up to 600 MHz but it will need at least another year to see the first hardware supporting these speeds.
Nevertheless all current Draft N products will be capable of final N too.
As it is "up to"  ;D
