Hi folks

The COVR-X1870 has one WAN port and four LAN ports. If I want to use ethernet for backhaul, which port should be used on the satellite to connect from the main router - the WAN port or any ethernet port?

Thanks... Yes I assume it would be aa LAN port on router... But the question is which port on the satellite (all devices in this series have four LAN and one WAN).

Thats a good question, I presume the connecting XL1870 behind the main 1870 host router could use either. The connecting XL1870 seem like it would auto configure it self for extender mode after connecting to the host 1870 as what happens on my COVR2202 system when I connected another A Point router to the host A point 2202 and the 2nd 2202 A Point reconfigured it self as a B Point extender. Try the WAN port first on the 2nd 1870 connected to the first XL1870 router on its LAN port.

Nope. just today I tried it again - reset the mesh satellite to factory default. Two things: it seems to automatically reconnect to the wireless backhaul and the password is now out of sync with the reset of the mesh network (it's using the default password now).

Next step would be to reset the whole setup but I still wouldn't be sure of any result. I have submitted a ticket to DLink to ask exactly how to switch from wireless to wired backhaul.

Sorted. DLink support confimed the mesh nodes should be connected via LAN ports - LAN port on Router node connects to LAN port on mesh node. Also it should be automatic, with no configuration needed.

Initially it didn't work for me and the node was showing as "WIFI_5G_Mesh_Extender". I decided to turn off all devices in the network, then power the router node and when the connection was active power the node connected via ethernet. The node came online but this time shows "LAN_Mesh_Extender". I then powered the last node (which remains connected via wireless backhaul).

So after connecting the MESH nodes to the router, the router should be power cycled so the wired connection takes effect between the router and MESH nodes?

Correct. It won't switch between connection types without a power cycle.

Ok will keep this in mind. Maybe D-link can fix it so it doesn't need a PC.

Sorry, forgot to mention - the mesh node password was out of sync after I reset that node (before trying to power cycle the whole system). The password was synchronised with the system after the power cycle got they all connected again.

Hey, just wondering what is the step by step process to get a 2nd DIR-LX connected to the first DIR-LX thats the main host router?
Do you first wirelessly connect the 2nd DIR to the 1st one or just out of the box, connect the 2nd DIR-LX to the 1st on LAN to LAN wire and turn on the 2nd DIR-LX and it should automatically sync?

Got a two set DIR-LX18070 system in yesterday. I had to get the FW updated on both first. Then I tired the LAN to LAN but the 2nd DIR-LX didn't seem to sync as the front LED blinked AMBER. So I went in and did the Extender mode on it, then power cycled it off, connected the ethernet LAN to LAN to the main host DIR router and it seems to be synced now. Process was not seamless as I had hoped.

How did you update the FW first? Did you plug each box to the Internet by itself? I'd think after connecting to the Internet you would have to reset the boxes to them to change back to default mode which is auto-pair.

Also, what version of FW are you using now? Mine are still on 1.01
