General help with setting up router
« on: April 23, 2022, 12:42:00 PM »

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a DWR-978 router and have a few questions which I'm hoping someone can answer.

The manual is fairly scant with regard to these subjects as it indicates how to change some of the settings but not what they do or advanced options that are available so any assistance would be appreciated.

1) Under the SMS settings there are two sub-headers where the contents look the same - Device and (U)SIM.  What is the difference between these two?

2) Whenever I do a reboot via the web interface, the router becomes unresponsive.  I am using a wired connection and the laptop I am using has a IP address, via DHCP in the correct range but I cannot ping the router or access its webpage.
The only option I have is to switch off for a couple of minutes before powering on and trying again.  All the router lights are as they should be and from the outside looks as if there is nothing wrong.

3)  What is the point of the SMS feature as you have to be logged in to the web interface in order to send or receive anything.  Could you reboot the router for example via SMS?  Can you access SMS via a device connected to the router - is there an API?

4) The biggest problem is the DDNS settings.  I have a tried changeIP and no-ip DDNS but cannot get this to work.  All I get is the Status showing as disconnected and according to the web interfaces of both of the DDNS providers, they never update.  Should it update once configured?  I get the timeout to 1 hr in case this helped but still nothing happened.

5) Is this right that the logs show very little information?  No matter what I do or settings which I've changed, the log contains nothing more than 12 lines which detail the DHCP negotiation and that the NTP service has started.
Is this normal?

6) The manual makes reference to Ookla speed test in the specifications but there is no menu which I can find so is there supposed to be somewhere to do a speed test?

Many thanks
Cos
