I just got this thing yesterday and nothing but the trouble documented here in this thread.

I have:

Hardware Version: B1
Firmware Version: 2.00NA

When I try to upload the 2.02NA firmware, it fails every time:

The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this Gateway, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the gateway may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a "user" instead of an "admin" - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

Help!!!

OK - gonna try this when I get home - I think this is my problem?:

When upgrading to 2.02NA, ....it's necessary to make a "clean" config from scratch.
(Press the reset button for more that 30 secs)

I did not reset at the back of the router, but looks like I need to do that first.

I am not PC illiterate, but I am when it comes to the network....

Wow....while I can actually get a connection with this fn boat-anchor, I can attest to being another proud owner, with continual disconnects, and no ability to get my wireless working at all. I currently have my PS3 and 1 PC connected at 1gb, and one PC at 100mps. I have 2 laptops, one G & one N, and neither can connect. At All. Period.
I had no problems at all and was very happy with the router until I upgraded away from the 1.01 firmware, as I was going to use that wonderful Shareport feature, which turns out to be all but useless, due to not being able to have multiple users access a USB drive at the same time. Gave up on it, but now the continuous disconnects. It is shameful that DLINK has not resolved these issues or somehow allow us to go back to stable firmware. This is my 3rd DLINK router, and I have been a loyal customer of their products and have pointed many people their way......they have totally missed the boat here, and making loyal customers look elsewhere.
The router is barely 6 mos old, and if this is not resolved within a week or so, I will be replacing it. Have been looking at the Linksys WRT610N...anyone have opinions on it?

Started over from square one, got the 2.02NA uploaded and applied, and all is good.  Connected since last night, no drops/disconnects when connected/wired to my desk top.  The kid is hard wired to Xbox and no issues.  The kid gets a strong wirless signal on his ipod touch even in the basement.  Router is two floors up, so that's good.

OK, so far I am where I wanted to be.  Took a while and multiple WTF moments, but I am there!

The laptop arrives today, so we'll see how my first forray into wireless goes.

My code upload problem was because I neglected to extract the bin file first. DUH.  Don't mind sharing my stupidity as it might help others....

This has been a good forum - would still be cussing a blue streak without it, so thanks to all for sharing.
Wish I could say the same for Dlink support....

Can this 2.02NA firmware also be used on a EU model ?

I have to say I was getting scared after I bought this and started reading the forums here. I set it up and it was fine when surfing the net, but when I tried to play a game on-line, it would lose the connection every five minutes. I was beginning to wonder if mine was a dud like the ones here in this post. I downloaded the firmware update to 2.02 and it has worked flawlessly for the last three days ;D. I didn't even reset the device. I just loaded it and it worked. I was planning to go through everyones methods to fix it, but did not need to use them.

My model:
Model: DIR-825
H/W Version: B1
F/W Version: 2.00NA (now 2.02)

I just wanted to add another one to the list that is unhappy with this total piece of junk.  I bought this to upgrade an old linksys router i was running and it has turned out to be the biggest mistake of my life.

I have to restart this thing every 2 days to keep it running, and even when it is running it works like crap.  Has anybody heard if D-link is going to ever release some firmware that might fix this thing?

Maybe i'll just use it as a paperweight and go buy a new linksys.

I am having the same issue with my 825s.  We upgraded the firmware to 2.02 and did the reset/reboot, and the best connection we have had is 5 hours before it drops.  I have yet to receive any feedback from D-Link, but I would prefer a solution to fix these routers rather try to exchange them.  I am in Afghanistan right now and had to revert back to a Linksys G for our satellite internet.  If anyone has any feedback, please let me know!!!  I am preparing to package up the routers within a couple days and send them back to the states for exchange.

I had problems with disconnects. The LAN connection would disconnect every few minutes, then sometimes reconnect by itself. Other times I would force a reset. I made three changes:

1) Updated to the 2.02 firmware.
2) Set the LAN driver speed for the wired connections to fixed (1000Mb, 100Mb depending on chip capabilities) on the PC side, instead of "auto".
3) Set the WAN link speed on the router instead of "auto" (per other thread on message board.)

Since then, I have had no problems. I've been running a couple weeks continuously without incident. My guess is that 2) is what fixed the problem, but can't be sure. My LAN consists of 4 PC with wired connections, 2 PCs wireless, 1 Mac wireless, 1 printer wireless, and a Roku box.

I own the Dir-825, hardware version A. When I got the item with firmware 1.01, connections dropped tremendously. I upgraded to firmware 1.11NA so as to solve the problem but this made it even worse. Connections dropped even more and other persons were complaining since they also shared the internet connection via the router. I always had to keep on physically powering off the router and plugging it back on. It got so bad that I installed an electrical switch on the plug that connected the router to an electrical outlet. So instead of pulling out the router's charger and then plugging it back on so as to reboot the router, I could now switch off the power supply.

However it has been a week and a half thus far and I have not had to reset the router. This is of course a world record for me since I had to reset this router every 2 days or so. I'm not sure if it's a fluke or what but I'll tell you what I did. I first saved the router settings to my hard drive. Then I upgraded the router's firmware to version 1.12NA. Then I upgraded to firmware version to 1.13NA right after.I then reloaded the router's settings that I saved on my hard drive. In the advanced tab of the router's webpage I went into the Qos settings. I unticked "Automatic Upload Speed" and I set the manual uplink speed to 360 kbps. My acutal uplink speed is 256 kbps but I just set the uplink a little higher to see what would be the effect. Thus far there has been no ill effect of doing such. In the end the router has not dropped connections or stopped being accessible via it's webpage.

However I don't know if things will go worse in the third week or so. I'll see and hopefully post an update.
I've given up on shareport since my main issue was the router dropping connections and being inaccessible via it's webpage.

The 825 is broken guys.  Its ridiculous that we need to do this much to fix it and for a lot of people including myself, still wont work.  I'm sending my back and getting a netgear 3700.  Soooo many wasted hours with this thing. Good luck everyone, and D link has really hurt their once good reputation with this router. Sad.

I had the connection dropping problem with Windows 7 beta and the DIR-825. After a lot of searching I found a reference to the "Wi-FI Protected Setup" feature being a problem. I disabled it in my router and the connection drops stopped.

For reference, I run firmware 1.01. The feature is found under Advanced-WiFi Protected Setup.

Moved to 1.13NA and thought it might have been solved.  Had uptime of 14 days.  Last night I started up uTorrent and now my uptime is 8 hours.

I've narrowed down the problem to high bandwidth uploads to the internet connection.  That would include things like bittorrents, vimeo, youtube, etc.  It doesn't have any problem routing traffic on the internet network.

I'm pretty much done with Dlink...going to replace this and ebay the dlink to someone that won't be using high bandwidth uploads.

Bought a netgear WNDR3700 and used it for a few days.  Back in the box and going back to the store.  It was -ok- for a bit, then went into a mode where it was dropping the WAN connection over and over again.  Might try a linksys next, or an apple.  At this point, ultimate speed isn't an issue.  I want something that doesn't crash!

Another thought - anyone rule out their cable modem as a possible issue?  My WAN drops at the cable modem...going to try a new (DOCSIS 3.0) one this weekend.
