dir 600 connection issues

Yeah sorry if I posted in the wrong forum, there isn't a dir-600 forum.  But I figured that someone would be able to help me because people seems to know what they're talking about and I am not very knowledgeable about this stuff.

So I just installed a broadband modem and this dir 600 wireless router at my house.  3 of 5 computers connect to it no problem.  The two that could not have properly functioning wireless adapters/cards and are both running windows xp.  The thing that is troubling is that my wireless network will not show up when they scan for wireless networks in the area.  However it has showed up very occasionally out of nowhere.  When it has showed up both pcs have said that they were connected to the network, but I haven't been able to get on the interent anyway.
