my way of solving freeze and restart

i dont know if this will help you guys or not, just wanna share my idea, and sorry about my english cause im not a native speaker
i got 5 pc , 3 wireless and 2 wired, 1 wii and 1 iphone 2 itouch at my home, dir 655 is just like a hell, freeze everyday sometimes dc every 5 mins
so what i did first is upgrade firmware, disable everything except basic wireless stuff, but still no good
in the end, i found that i dont need wireless n at all, although 2 of my pcs support n mode but i felt it useless, so i forced my dir 655 to work in b&g mode, and since i disabled the n mode, my router is just works like a charm
so if you have freezing problem, try disable your n mode, i guess its just the processor in the router which is not strong enough to handle due channel broadcast, so its getting overloaded easily
just give it a shot and post your result, maybe can help more people

Assuming this does work, it kind of defeats the purpose of having an N router, doesn't it? In other words, why should I shell out 100$ for an N product when I could buy a WRT54G and have a lot better router in general (along with firmware)?

Could also be an incompatibility with one of the clients...

Pixielark, this was a great suggestion and I thank you for posting it.  I experienced countless freeze ups on my wireless connection after upgrading firmware from 1.21 to 1.32.  Could always correct by repairing connection from Windows but problems would literally occur every 15 mins or so.  Tried all the suggestions, reset the router, blew away the config file and recreated everything by hand, disabled DNS relay, etc.  Nothing worked.  Everything had worked fine prior to the upgrade so I was kicking myself for doing it.

Changing the wireless mode from N to B+G only worked immediately and I haven't had a freeze up since.  Don't really care what I lose by doing this as the router was practically useless prior to making this change.  Hopefully next firmware update fixes this problem for good but I'm loving the work around until then.

What does incompatibility has to do with anything?  ::)

Yes, lets make up random excuses and blame customers products for locking up and freezing a router!
