Strange Behavior Dir 655 w Airport Express
« on: September 25, 2009, 12:10:33 PM »

Have been running two AExpress units and AppleTV w a Belkin G OK but upgraded to DIR 655
and have had NO success at keeping the wireless connections up.  Can connect one or two clients but they respond (and stream thru iTunes) and then drop-off.  No amount of change to open ports and encryption makes any difference.  Upgraded to Airport Extreme and ALL IS VERY SMOOTH and easy to set up!!  (MAC OS 10.4.11, iTunes 9.0.1).

Why does the DIR 655 have the problem maintaining the connection and stream?

Any thoughts?

I just received an Ibook G3 500MHz, with an airport card, and have been trying to connect with no luck at all to my DIR-655 network. I wondered if it was the fact that I had it set to WPA/WPA2, and n/g, and changed all of it around to no security, b/g/n, etc., but still no luck. Anything you can tell me about connecting an Airport card?

One of the computers I have in my computer room is an iMac (about 2 years old).  It has an airport card in it that is connecting very well.  I realise that you are speaking of a laptop, but I believe the only difference between your airport card and mine in the iMac is that yours is probably newer, maybe different firmware...etc.   Since you set all of it up for no security, then it should connect very easily.  Just adhere to proper networking setup procedures and it should connect unless there is something wrong with the card.  Proper setup procedures = Same network name on all computers...etc.  You know what I mean  ;D
it should work.
