Hi,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post.

Since I am finding this post so very helpful, I decided to register and give my take on the new firmware 1.32NA.

Since I newly bought this router (with hardware ver. A4), I was in the 30 day return period. I did not care about breaking the router functionality.

I connected it to my network, got it working and upgraded it in steps from 1.21 -> 1.31NA -> 1.32NA.

I have done this on Saturday night (Oct. 30) and today is Nov 4. It is still working fine.
As always, my first day with the router was slow. I think this is because the QoS is learning the usage pattern or something. But from second day onwards I am in good shape (touch wood). No serious problems.

I also needed to upgrade the Shareport s/w which supports the new firmware. I am happy there too.
I actually went ahead and but a 1 to many USB adapter and connected my HP all-in-one printer and my Sandisk 4GB stick inside and they both are recognized. I also (seperately) put in a Lexar 512MB stick which was formatted for FAT32 and even that was recognized fine.

My ONLY complaint is that my very old SMC G router had 1 antenna and this one has 3. STILL both of them were at par in terms of their signal strength downstairs. Therefore my PS3 cannot do Media server recognization properly. (Only 30% strength - on a good day!)

I am GREATLY interested if anyone can point me where I can find the WDS functionality in DIR-655 router so I can use my old SMC (it has this functionality) as a repeater for downstairs.

Thanks for reading such a long post.

Dax.

Hello:

1.32NA. SO FAR SO GOOD FOR ME!

I upgraded my DIR-655 today from 1.21 to 1.32NA.  I did this upgrade because I was not able to load my DirecTV apps feature from my DirectTV receiver.  I read that 1.32NA fixed a UPnP bug--so thinking this may fix my DirecTV apps issue, I tired tried the firmware upgrade to 1.32NA.

I saved all my router settings before I upgraded and then once I installed 1.32NA and rebooted I reloaded all my saved settings ( mainly because I didn't want to reconfigure all the SSID/Passwords on all my wireless devices). (to save settings BEFORE you upgrade and then reload after wards...go to Tools, Systems, Systems Settings) The whole upgrade took me about 10mins.  Everything is normal and operational.  I have many devices connected to my wireless network...Everything is running perfectly 2 hours into the upgrade.  I am even able to administrate my router from my iMAC using Firefox.

I am curious about your DirecTV situation as I am switching from Comcast in the next few days. I had hoped to run a CAT 5e or 6 to my HDTV frorm my DIR 655. Any suggestion? I have 1.21 and A4 now but intend to use Shareport as soon as I can install the software as we need to print from a laptop with a DWA-160 adapter. BTW, both my laptop and desktop are running XP SP3.

I have had enough with the DIR655 router!!!!!!!!, it is not a cheap router. It is a disgrace that there is lots of people complaining about issues with the latest firmware build and Dlink seams to do nothing about it.
It is so unreliable, The application gateway feature to help handle SIP across the NAT does not work, when switched on. Therefore it is hit and miss if you have your VoIP service working correctly. Tonight the port forwarding decided to stop working and can't tunnel in to our IP-PBX any more.

I will not recommend to our IP-PBX clients to use Dlink products in their networks. Also will not purchase Dlink products myself anymore. As I now have to go and purchase a replacement router. :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I would like to share with you all some more information of issues with the DIR655.  As post in my last reply that my 655 was going to be replaced a.s.a.p.  I replaced it with a wireless dual band N router that was 1/3 cheaper than the 655.  I have noticed the following

1.  The start up times after changing any programming is a lot faster, This also applies to bringing up administration and configuration pages.

2.  The DIR is also loosing packets with 1.32NA firmware. As now, my VoIP connection is not choppy and SIP for the IP-PBX is working just as it should be.

3.  The internet in displaying pages and interaction with the web in noticeably faster.

If Dlink are telling us that they don't have issues with the DIR655, then it is just bull. They should go and look at the competitor products to find out what we are all complaining about.    :) :) :)

Congratulations, but your information really does not add anything to this thread. There's no issues here, SIP VOIP works like a charm. I haven't seen a Dlink quote saying there's nothing wrong...but for all i know you completely messed up the config thus causing issues.

For your information, I am also using Linksys networking products (routers) and I really do not notice the pro's you describe.

PS: do not call me a fanboy, I am only arguing that your personal experience is in no way a generic experience. If having working devices is enough to qualify as a fanboy there is really something wrong with your judgement.  ;)

I have many years experience using Dlink routers and products.  I am using the same configuration parameters on the new router and all works great.  There is nothing extreme about my DIR655 otherwise I would be a happy camper and would not have wasted my money on a replacement.

We are experiencing the same issues at a number of client sites and they are in the works for replacement.

After wanting the DIR-655 for so long, I received a free Dlink DIR-655 from a relative of mine who had FIOS installed.

Worked great for some things, not so great for others.

Like the other poster said, VOIP does not work well. That was the biggest issue, but there were others.
I packed away the router and instead bought a cheap $35 router that was DD-WRT capable.
Now I have no problems whatsoever. The DIR-655 was the first router I've ever had trouble with.

The DLink fanboys (aside from those that aren't posting good things because they work for DLink) need to recognize that there are indeed firmware issues. Saying otherwise is just dishonest.

Companies will ignore you until you hit them on their bottom line especially when it comes to something like firmware.

Give it a thumbs down and advise people to go the DD-WRT route which is much cheaper as well.

Nobody is denying a user with an issue. The cause of those those issues, that is exactly what is scrutinized each and every time. 'Bad firmware' is an easy target since nobody, esp. the tech n00bs even bother to provide evidence or test results that exclude other possible causes. That's what people may call short sighted.

I had ZERO problems with 1.21 until I upgraded to 1.32NA. The router now locks up every 2 days so I have to power cycle it everytime it does that.

After running my A2 DIR-655 for over a year without issue, a few months ago it started acting up.  About once a week I would have to resort to power cycling because I couldn't browse the internet on my wired desktop PC.  I am on 1.32NA firmware and it started behaving badly ever since the upgrade from a previous version.  Nothing else has changed in my networking environment.

All morning I have been perusing through this forum to see other users' experiences, and now sadly have come to the revelation that like many other users, I am disappointed with my router and D-link support.  I think it would be safe to assume that of all the forum-goers here, the majority are having issues and need help - hence the need for such a forum.  It would also be safe to assume that if your hardware is working fine, then you don't really have a need for help and aren't posting your experience.

I will be downgrading to 1.31 tonight to try and fix my problems.  I have no faith in the 1.32beta release.

Nothing special about my setup.  No Virtual Servers or Port Forwarding.  Not using shareport but I do use the USB port to power a laptop cooling fan that the router sits on.  1 wired PC, 3 wireless PCs and a Wii.
