Scheduling Internet Access
« on: September 28, 2009, 08:13:09 AM »

I selected the DLink 655 Router under the impression that I could make a schedule to manage the time when the router allowed access to the Internet.

As an informed parent I know that my requirement is not unique.

Yet it does not seem easily possible as it should be.

The router seems to have trouble accepting start times that wrap around midnight and starttimes from just after midnight until 1:00 am.

Since I want to exclude all internet access for any connected machine it seems like it should be an easy thing to achieve but I have not been able to make it work.

Any ideas or the ability to fix the error in the schedule time settings would be helpful.

Thanks,

Jeff

If you need a schedule that wraps around midnight, you need to make 2 schedules.  One that starts at whatever time you want and ends at Midnight and a second that starts at Midnight and ends at your end time. This is a known bug but hasn't been discussed about too much in a while.

I tried that.  You can't make a schedule that starts after midnight and goes to 5:00 am.
The best I have found is a schedule that starts at 1:00 am and goes to 5:00 am
For some reason the time from midnight until 12:59 seems to be flagged as an invalid start time.

This seems like it would be easy to fix - it is purely bad software.

Midnight is 12:00 AM.  (I always used to get confused about this.)  So:

    ... 11:59 PM, 12:00 AM (midnight), 12:01 AM ...

With A4 H/W and 1.21 F/W I have no problem setting times as long as they don't cross midnight.

All of the following are ok and do not return invalid time:

    11:00 PM to 11:59 PM

12:00 AM to 1:00 AM (midnight to 1am)

12:00 AM to 5:00 AM (midnight to 5am)
