OK, nice set up, I did more testing and have come to the final conlusion that its my router.. the DSM -520 does and still works great.  I thank you for your input as I was about to replace the DSM as my media solution.  I will now be replaceing the router.  thank you..

I used to have a working DSM520 with VISTA 64bit and wrt54gs then I went to WIN 7 64bit home Premeum and now I have the same lag you are talking about, any advise?

I would recommend you to check the router settings, I have noticed DSM-520 works more or less reliably
only in wireless-G (not B/G mixed) @ 54Mbps. The second thing to check - signal strength (should be 70 and up). If everything's OK, check your PC/Router connection (if it is wireless). By the way, what Media server do you use on Win7 64-bit?

Im using Windows 7 64x with no issues, just bought the dsm-520 last week and another one today (upstairs and down). I downloaded and installed the newest D-Link media server software from the D-Link site. Issue im having is I updated the firmware on my D-Link, and it added Active TV. But to use the Active TV u have to download the software. Well I downloaded it and guess what? While installing it tells u It doesnt support the 64x operating system! Anyone know of any solutions? Is there a 64x version out there somewhere?

The authors of ActiveTV is a company called Mediamall.  They will tell you that it will not work in a 64 bit environment. 

The upgrade to ActiveTV is PlayOn.  Go to themediamall.com and give it a spin.  14 day trial before purchase is required.  It appears that it may work in a 64 bit environment...yymv.

To all of you who have a lagging problem, I also had the same problem with also freeze up of the DSM-520.  My fix is documented in http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=9686.0

It has to do with Windows 7 and UPNP I believe.
