Noob network problem-Dir-655 to DIR-628 adhoc/bridge etc...
« on: October 15, 2009, 06:56:59 PM »

Ok so here's my issue,

Have a DIR-655 set up as main router and have a spare DIR-628, coverage is great but am moving to a room in the basement with no possibility of running cat5 between the 2 routers. how do I set up the DIR-628 to act as a bridge/client mode/ap etc for the 655?
 ??? ???
Basically want the DIR-628 to repeat the DIR-655 signal so I get better coverage for my laptop and also be able to plug in my xbox360 to one of the lan ports of the 628 so i can play on the network.

Hope I didn't confuse anyone, saw lots of examples where you connect the routers with cable, but cable isn't an option. Any help is appreciated. :)

It's not possible to connect both wireless.
None of the both DIR has a repeater option.

That's why there are only examples with wired connections ...

Hi,

Another option for you is to extend your LAN using powerline / homeplug technology....the newest version runs at some 270 Mbps or so if memory serves....and if you move again...you unplug from the wall and move it with you...

I use an older version (10-14 Mbps) for our game consoles and it works quite nicely....

There is also MOCA which uses the cable wire.  If you do some research you can find some pretty cheap MOCA stuff on ebay.
