I know that the dgl-4500 can use either a 2.4GHz or a 5GHz frequency, but can it use both at the same time? I'd want the 5GHz frequency for my 360 and the 2.4GHz frequency for my laptop, since it can only use 2.4GHz. Can I have the router using both at the same time?

It simply can't, because it lacks certain hardware for it.  It's not a simple software thing to enable broadcasting on both spectrums.

Since the user has the DGL-4500, moving to the 825 might be a 3x3 MIMO-to-bleh tradeoff. Gain dual-band, yet go half-deaf -- especially on 802.11a.

(I want to eventually see 7x7 MIMO with beamforming!  )

The way this product is packaged one would very easily believe that it will run both bands at the same time! Everywhere on the box it says "DUAL BAND". It should say "2 band". Dual meaning both at the same time while 2 meaning one or the other. LoL where I live if you sold a truck advertising DUAL wheels and the guy that just paid 32K comes to pick it up and sees only 2 wheels in the rear you would get yourself shot!

This router being a part of the "Extreme N" family should have the same basic functions as the rest. Marketing in the long run is hurting this product and the company as a whole. It's sad but this is somthing you'll see everywhere you go. All the wording is passed by the legal department first to make sure there's a loop hole incase someone complains.

I have my box right in front of me, and it mentions this:

"Duo Technology - Your router has the power of dualband (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) wireless signals to get your game on in the band of your choice."

I'll SPELL this out for you even...KEYWORD: OR

Or does NOT mean simultaneous, or TWO at once.  It's one choice. 

If you can't get that, then you must be dumb.

I'm very sorry to have upset you so badly Reinvented. My post wasn't ment as damaging to anyone here nor did I mean to position myself for personal attacks.

Myself, I know what this product can and can't do on the basic level because I did my research before I went out to buy it. The average joe doesn't do that (shame on him) for the most part and the average joe sees the word "DUAL" as the truck example I provided above. Besides the one place on the clear plastic wrapped box where the word "or" appears is where the retailor puts either "the smiley" face or the "special" stickers.
