Folder Permissions

I am trying to figure out why folders that I write to my DNS suddenly lock me out. I can't delete them, and I can't write to them or create folders. It's happens a lot ... and now I have been locked out of a lot of files.

It happened before too. How can I get access to these folders and write to them again?

I am accessing the DNS with an iMac running Leopard, the one before the upgrade.

Do a search on "folder permissions" for the DNS-321 forum, this has been discussed here by others.  It's apparently a real issue with the current firmware.

Yes, I did try with a Windows machine (XP and 7) and no joy. All the directories are read-only.

I use exclusively Windows machines, 2K, XP, Vista, and Win7, to access the NAS, but I've never seen this issue.  Others have encountered it, so I'm wondering what the Mac does that's different that seems to be triggering this oddball behavior.

In any case, I believe this has to be a DNS-321 issue, I can't imagine that's how it's supposed to react!  ::)

Are you running the latest firmware?

I downgraded to 1.0.2 and I still have the same problem: no access to the drives.

Is DLINK looking at this problem?

Yes we are looking into this however we are yet to replicate the issue you describe. Can you provide some detail on the files types you are saving to the DNS-321 and does this happen on any file you save to the unit. Right now if you copy just like an image file from your Doc folder and paste it to a new folder in the DNS-321 are you unable to delete the file?

Does it happen to all files? Yes
I am unable to move, delete or add files.
Sharing & Permissions: You can read only
Mac OS 10.6.1

It seems pretty clear other people are experiencing the same problem.

Yeah...its working here for me I cant replicate this I am able to copy and paste files to and from the DNS-321 with Mac OS 10.6.1

Did you upgrade from 1.0.2?

Why aren't the permissions sticking? Can we change them from a terminal session?

What logs do you want to see?

Yes I upgraded from 1.02.

Did u reset the unit to factory defaults after upgrading the firmware?

Good suggestion. I reset to the factory settings upon upgrade at it solved the problem. Of course, I lost all of my settings, but since I had saved them (--someone-- does this), it was an easy fix.

I'd suggest making a note in the readme about having to do that prior to a firmware upgrade.

FWIW, when doing a firmware upgrade on most any device like a NAS or router, resetting to factory defaults is always a good idea.  Many times, the mapping of data in the parameter area changes with a new release.
