1.08b7 Availability?
« on: November 20, 2009, 05:20:48 AM »

Since there was a leaked copy of the 1.08b7 beta some time ago, is there any plan on a "official" beta release through the beta forum here?  Just curious... :)

Not b7. A new version is going to have to be released due to some issues. Since these are the final builds we are working on, this one should go up for testing.

This right here is why people shouldn't be mad at D-Link for not releasing B7...

They didn't release it because there are issues with it... and they don't want us getting screwed and potentially losing our data, etc...   Granted, there's always risks with a beta build, but clearly if they're aware of some issues, then not releasing the build is the right thing to do.

I'm not disagreeing, I just saw 1.08b7 "in the wild", and was curious if it was going to be released here.  Note that I've also elected not to "shoot the dice" on the one that was hosted on some unknown site for that very reason.  One would assume that if it were of suitable quality they would have posted it here. :)

I'm not disagreeing with you - but - anyone who is running live data with any beta release, and loses that data has only himself to blame.

Well, I have "live" data, but the NAS is strictly a backup and losing the entire box would not be a disaster, just an inconvenience. :)

I think people are more annoyed because every release given is riddled with bugs and then back to the drawing board. It has been a long time coming and every time a release is due more bugs are found and the cycle continues. I know software/firmware coding isn't easy though....

Well, I haven't found that 108.b5 is "riddled with bugs", but I agree it's not perfect.

Maybe 1.08b7 is also not perfect but up to now it is running without any issues.
But as I use the DNS for Backups only I do not need all functions.

I would never use a Beta for a system running with my primary data.
It would be to much trouble if I have to restore it all.
