Host Migration....in network game Modern warfare 2
« on: December 03, 2009, 03:28:36 PM »

During game a received a alert "hist migration" and my play stopped...i go to this support page and i see:

Quote
I received a message directing me to this site when my game attempted to migrate hosts, why is that?

Host Migration is designed to auto-select the next best available host in your lobby when the original host leaves the game. When host migration is working perfectly you may never notice as it should be a rather seamless transition. However, host migration may be affected by individual user network settings or other uncontrollable circumstances; this is where you can help improve host migration success by ensuring that you have the most optimal network setting for online play.

Your NAT type is displayed in the Spec Ops Two Player Online menu and the online menu for Multiplayer (Xbox LIVE for X360, Playstation Network for PS3, and IWNet for PC). You will have one of the three following displayed:

    * Open - You will get into games more quickly, have better matchmaking, and host migration will succeed more often.
    * Moderate - Matchmaking will go more slowly, you'll get into less games, and host migration will be harder.
    * Strict - You'll get into less games, matchmaking might take a long time, and you will fail to migrate to a new host more often.

OPEN Your NAT:

A good first step to try is rebooting your router, sometimes this will OPEN your NAT right away.

Next, log into your router and turn on UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), most routers have this option in the Administration tab.

The goal is to have an OPEN NAT in order to host Spec Ops games and get a wider selection of MP matches to join.

So i control my router and PnP is enabled but ...i don't understand "..the goal is have Open Nat..:" ehat is this and in which way i can opne NAT ???

Thank
Hispanico

OPEN NAT means that other people can directly connect to your computer through your router that usually acts as a firewall. This means two things...
1) Your router must be configured to forward ports for you. This usually means port forwarding, but in mw2 uPNP forwarding works as long as uPNP is enabled in your router settings.
2) Your computer's firewall has to allow incoming connections, ie properly setting up Windows Firewall, Comodo, etc.

You internet gateway device  (modem) might need portforwarding. PnP only works from PC to router.

Hey guys.

I'm not the smartest person when it comes to networking and routers and such but I try.
I am also having problems with Modern Warfare 2 on Steam always telling me NAT Strict.
I have tested out different settings to my router and Wi-Fi without success.

I have the DIR-655 and DWA-556, they are 2 meters apart.
Latest drivers for both and I am using Windows 7 with latest updates.

You can see on the screen shots what settings I have, is something wrong or?

I had a similar problem with Modern Warefare 2.  I could never connect to a game.  It would always search and say 0/50 games found.  The only way I could play was to search my friends or other players I've played with in the past and join their sessions...  or I could always connect the XBOX directly to the modem.  I tried port forwarding and putting the IP address in the DMZ...  but still nothing...  I also had NAT restricted.

My solution was to get a new modem with router cababilities from my ISP, Bell.  I was able to use both my bell router and dir-655 router on the same network.  I connected the XBOX 360 to the Bell router and everything else connected to the dir-655 (which is now connected to the bell router).  All is good now...  connection is great  :)

Still confused why the dir-655 didn't like my XBOX 360.
