Wireless issues - is my 655 DOA?
« on: December 08, 2009, 01:13:28 PM »

Just received my 655 from newegg and have been frustrated beyond belief.

Wired connections work great, no complaints.

Wireless is another story. I have tried mixed mode, G-only, WPA, WPA2, no security, TKIP and AES, TKIP, AES....basically every single option you can choose from the Wireless Manual Config screen.

Two G devices - a MacBook and a Dell Laptop can both intermittently see the SSID with a (very strong) signal.  However web browsing is exceptionally slow, slower than a 56k modem.  If I try to disconnect and rejoin the network I often cannot even see the network available.

I flashed to latest 1.32na and that was no help.  I tried resetting to factory defaults and I can rarely even get my laptops to even connect to the default "dlink" network.   If they do connect, speeds are 5.0mbs or slower....even though my laptop is in the same room as the router.

I can't help but think that either 1) the DIR-655 is an enormous piece of garbage or 2) I have a bad router.

My QUESTION:  Do I need to make some sort of weird configuration changes to get wireless to work OUT OF THE BOX?  I did not touch the CD installation software that shipped with it as I am not convinced it is of any use to me.

Maybe you should go in and disable all of the uneeded features like QOS etc and see if that would help.
