Windows e-mail client causing disconect - any help?
« on: December 28, 2009, 01:12:26 PM »

I have recently purchased a dir-655 router. My previous wireless networked fine but since acquiring the 655 I now have repeated disconnects throughout the day.

One of the causes (there may be more) is when my wife's netbook using XP and Outlook Express does a send/receive.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

I am having the same problem. Curious if you resolved it?  I am actually waiting for 3rd tier tech support to call me back on this issue. Hopefully they are able to help...

YES!  An update to my firmware!  It is beta firmware. You need to get all the way to level 3 tech support.  You can also download here:

ftp://dlink.com/downloads

Select the dir 655 router folder.

Download the following for the dropped connections:  dir655_fw_132b09NA_beta

It was like MAGIC and ended TONS of frustration!!!

It was that specific beta - there are several versions. That's the one for dealing with dropped connections.  Are you sure you have that specific version?

Other than that - I'm of no more assistance. :o(

No I don't have that specific version. I tried to connect to ftp://dlink.com/downloads as suggested to download the beta version but can't connect to that page. Do I have the right link?

This is pretty funny.  I never noticed it but you are right.  I'm on Windows 7 64bit with Outlook 2007.  When I send/receive mail and shut down the email client, my wireless radio restarts on the router.  I can't believe I didn't notice this before but there it is in the log and reproduceable.

I won't download "beta" firmware on this router.  I'll await the new Dlink approved firmware.

It's not just my wife's netbook, I discovered that doing a send/receive on all of the Outlook clients on any computer connected to our wireless network causes a disconnect.

I have downloaded the latest beta firmware at ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir655/Beta/Firmware/ but this has not fixed the problem.

Does anyone have any idea why checking e-mail would cause this problem?

Why would checking e-mail cause a wireless disconnect?
« Reply #9 on: January 02, 2010, 02:54:08 PM »

I have searched forums and googled but cannot find an explanation why any time a pc on my network checks e-mail using outlook the wireless disconnects? Can anyone help me troubleshoot this? I have the latest beta firmware installed>
