Post by: David on February 04, 2008, 12:27:49 PM
The following lists the printers that have been successfully tested for compatibility with the D-Link DPR-1260 Multifunction Wireless USB Print Server. We are interested in any feedback regarding printers not on this list that you have been able to install successfully.

Each test environment consisted of the following components:

# The above PC is equipped with an 802.11g wireless network adapter and a 10/100BASE – TX Ethernet interface.
# 802.11g wireless access point and/or router.
# 10/100BASE – TX Ethernet switch.
# D-Link DPR-1260 Multifunction Wireless USB Print Server
# Printer under test.

Is the Mac OS supported when using a DPR-1260 Print Server? It states its supported on the box however there is no information on the support site. When ever I log in to the DPR, it states that this is an unsupported OS but with my Windows Machine it works fine.
So is there any information on how to print with the DPR-1260 using a Mac OS X.

Please help.

The issue with the Mac is, the drivers for most of the printers for Mac use, do not allow Postscript printing. Especally HP, HP and Mac don't always play nice.

hi!

you can try following these steps

> System Preferences
> Print & Fax: Set up printers: Add.
Select IP Printing: LPD/LPR and used the IP address of the print server as its address, and enter the queue name. Finally, select the printer model and try to print.

hope this helps....

I have successfully installed the Konica-Minolta Magicolor 2430DL using the USB port only. I have not attempted to try using the ethernet port at this time.
This was confirmed on PCs running the following O/S's: Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home and Media Edition and Windows Vista Home Premium.

The Brother MFC-8840D Mulit-Function printer is working well in printing however, it is NOT recognized as having a scanner, which it in fact has.
This was confirmed on PCs running the following O/S's: Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home and Media Edition and Windows Vista Home Premium.

These compatible printers were also tested for MAC OS right?
Title: Re: Printer compatibility list
Post by: Fatman on May 29, 2008, 09:23:30 AM
If a printer is compatible it will be compatible regardless of OS.  That is not to say however that there won't still be some devices with no Apple drivers, or no Apple drivers that support non-local mode (which is required for this device), but the problem lies firmly in the driver not the DPR-1260.

For the most part that device is OS independent. It's really based on A) can the device see the printer b) does the printer have drivers for your given OS?

Samsung SCX-4721 works fine (WinXP) for printing, but no love for scanning.  Any chance on scanning compatibility in the future?

i saw that there is a list of compatibility but firmware was not changed since 19-03-2007, so i guess you dont update and provide further support to your clients?

UPDATE:

saw that dlink released a new driver version 30-07-08 (1.24) and did not solve their clients problems.

DLINK: why dont you prioritize your clients printer recognition?

I have 3 printers connected and none of them are fully recognized. Humorous

its seems so... but do not forget the fact that they do not make firmwares for old products!!!
With HP and DELL when i have a problem and need to have a customized firmware they customize it in a matter of days. D-links seems to not hear the clients complaints and saying that there is a compatibility list and if it is not listed there blablabla..

Title: Re: Printer compatibility list

If I remember correctly, one day it was simply not supported anymore and removed from the supported list, check the latest to see it's no longer there at:

http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2707&question=DPR-1260 (http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2707&question=DPR-1260) (This is only my explanation, not a justification)

This is only out of memory, maybe D-Link has the official story...

Has anyone gotten Dell All-in-One printers to work?  My printer is being recognized, but it will not print and declares that the ink is out.  Any workarounds?

i have a question about 'compatibility'

The following lists the printers that have been successfully tested for compatibility with the D-Link DPR-1260 Multifunction Wireless USB Print Server. We are interested in any feedback regarding printers not on this list that you have been able to install successfully.

Each test environment consisted of the following components:

# PC operating under below network operating systems
# Windows XP – NetBUI, TCP/IP
# Win2000 – NetBUI, TCP/IP
# The above PC is equipped with an 802.11g wireless network adapter and a 10/100BASE – TX Ethernet interface.
# 802.11g wireless access point and/or router.
# 10/100BASE – TX Ethernet switch.
# D-Link DPR-1260 Multifunction Wireless USB Print Server
# Printer under test.

I have installed the Stylus CX3800.  Is there any way to get the print server to send ink level/status information to the EPSON monitor utility on the pc?

Also the EPSON scan utility does not find the scanner on the server [even after manually setting ip address from printer port list when the utilty was installed].  I get message to plug in the scanner to finish the install.. nothing is found when the scanner is reconnected to the print server thus the scanner install never finishes completely...  Yes the scan from the server works but I have to setup all users to have access [meaning admin password] to the server to connect and use the scanner...

Are there any 'work arounds' for these issues... or is this "just the way" it is??

Do you have Bi-Directional communication enabled on the port on the PC?

Also, please do me a favour and in the future don't quote 3 pages of text because 1 printer model is listed somewhere in there, either quote the relevant sections or link back to the list please.

Yes I have Bidirectional communication support enabled.  IP_192.168.1.50_9100
Advanced print functions enabled.  These settings are what the 1260 setup app set on the pc.

Also - I have seen others and I have been chastised for 'para phrasing' a Quote on other forums.  I am sorry if I ruffled any feathers.

It is cool, I just got tired of scrolling.

paraphrasing and taking a smaller quote to maximise readability are two different things.

Paraphrasing is a bad idea, making things readable (especially if your quote points back to the full text) is a kindness.

You can seriously hear his space-bar 3 hallways away. People upstairs question whether there is something wrong with the plumbing when he is typing. :)

Somehow this feels like something I should be able to turn to my benefit, but I can't find my in.

I have tried unsuccessfully to get my Dell 962AIO to work with the DPR-1260 and the support person on the other end of the line was less than helpful when i tried asking her how to uninstall a driver that was installed and does not work correctly.  It works great with my HP Photoprinter and HP LaserJet printers though.  -Jason

To be fair, that driver isn't a D-Link tech's bag.  We support our products not half installed drivers for a printer.  That said I am sorry your experience was s rough.

Glad to hear it is working with some of your printers though.

I kinda got that jist when I was talking with her.  I also have the D-Link DNS-323 with an available printer port and I have the same problem attempting to hook up my Dell AIO with it.  It will recognize the Dell, but keeps erroring out stating that it cannot communicate with the printer.  Do you have any work arounds for this?  Thanks!  -Jason

I am 90% sure they use the same technology for handling the printer, if the DNS recognises it then it is extremely likely that the only thing standing in your way is a driver that allows network printing.

Just installed the Canon Pixma mx850 multi-function.  I can print, but the DPR-1260 says no scanner found on the Scan section.

As you can see in the below FAQ, that printer is not listed as compatible for scanning.  Thanks for the report.

So there is no chance of the print server working with this very common canon multi-function printer, via a firmware update?  Would think dlink would do more to ensure compatibility with common printers from major manufacturers.

I really didn't want to have to ditch my DPR-1260.  It is pretty reliable.  Good thing the printer came with ethernet connectivity.  Guess I'll have to move things around so that I can plug the printer directly into my router.

We have only ever supported scanning with a dozen models, unlike printing there is no standardized way it is handled.

I would advise that any printer with Ethernet connectivity be connected with it regardless of circumstances.

Just installed an Epson WorkForce 310 multi-function on the DPR-1260 Ethernet port and it seems to be working fine for printing. I haven’t tried to scan or updated the firmware on the sever yet.

There is a slight chance of it working for scanning given we support some Epson scanners, however I still wouldn't hold my breath.

Remote scanning seems a curious goal anyhow, you are going to have to run back and forth to manipulate the scanned object, why not just hit the button while your there?

That said, this is another Ethernet enabled device, hooking it up to a print server makes less sense than fighting for peace.

Last update. Installed firmware 1.24 and the DPR-1260 can now see the printer via the USB port but it doesn’t recognize the scanner. Back to the Ethernet port.

Any compatability problems with the Dlink Dir-628 dual band router and an Epson Sylus Photo R320 printer?  The "ease" of installing this router which was supposed to take "minutes" turned into a few hours and somehow the printer still does not get recognized by the router.  The modem talking to the router is fine, again after a couple of hours of setting even with the help of an IT knowledgable friend of mine, who was actually here to look at it.  New firmware 1.24 was installed, despite the Dlink device telling us that the previous version WAS the updated version.  Again we searched through to find the new firmware.  Again not easy and not minutes.

Works with the Samsung CLP-510 Colour laser.  From XP and Vista 32 and Mac OSX 10.6
.  Slow to print large files like pdf's or pictures but I think that is typical for this print server on wireless

Well... I'm having some awful problems with my CLP-510. It worked great on my old system. However, with my new system, I've installed Vista 64-bit. The problem I'm having is with the driver. If I connect the printer directly to my computer via USB, it works fine and prints. When I reconnect it to the DLink and then try to install the printer, it keeps saying that it cannot find the driver and I need to insert the CD or point it at the driver location. I've downloaded the driver from Samsung and pointed the DLink at that directory, but it says that it cannot find a suitable driver. HALP!

I have a Samsung CLP-300 color laser printer, and no matter what I try I can't get the driver instaled. I have 3 printer connected to this , and would like to the samsun color laster as my default.

Everytime I try and install the driver it says it can't find the driver with the name of "CLP-300".

I have a Epson Stylus Photo 1200 and although listed as compatible on the list, it is NOT.  Anyone know which "independent" lab tested them, and what was the firmware version of the  DPR-1260 used in those *tests* ?  Current firmware version I have on the DPR-1260 is ver. 1.24... hoping an earlier firmware version was compatible.

I recently replaced my HP Officejet 7310xi which worked great using a DPR-1260 USB connection, which then is connected to my DIR-655 router. All functions worked, printing and scanner. (The 7310 finally went belly-up, so it had to be replaced).

So now, I am using a Lexmark Pro-901 multifunction, which only will work with the Ethernet connection, and the 901 scanner function works just fine too. (The Pro-901 is identical in all ways to the Pro-905 except that the 905 has 2 paper trays, where the 901 only has 1 paper tray).

Whenever I try to install the 901 using the DPR-1260 setup wizard, (and the Status/Setup clearly sees the 901 on the USB-2 port as "Ready", but with NO Scanner detected), and I select the USB-2 port, when I click "Next", I get the famous "Oops! This page appears broken. HTTP 404 - File not found" message. Lexmark states clearly that this printer will work with BOTH Ethernet AND USB connections, wired or wireless, simultaneously. The 901 is NOT in wireless mode at the present time, but the DPR-1260 IS in wireless mode, of course as is the router.

Am I to assume that this is due to NO Compatibility whatsoever, since it is not on the list? And if so, why is it recognized in the status mode as ready? My USB-1 port is currently used for a HP laser printer w/o a scanner, and works just fine. My firmware is current at 1.24 for the print server.

Any suggestions as how to install it working on USB using the DPR-1260?

I have no problem connecting to the CLP-300 with the DPR-1260. (One PC running Windows 7 and two on XP SP3). Did you try installing the drivers locally on each PC? That might help.

I have other problems with the CLP-300, which are hardware -related, but that's another story. I would certainly not recommend it. I am planning to retire it when the toner runs out.

Also successfully running Brother HL-2140, which is not listed in this thread.

Any suggestions on getting a Konica magicolor 1600w to work?  I got a couple print test pages to work, but can't seem to get it to work consistently.  Any thoughts?

I am using Windows 7 32 bit.
