Does any1 kno how to setup the custom settings on playstation instead of the easy setting if you do please get at me
-
get a hold of LookIntoMyEyees, seems to be good and PS stuff.

There would be no need for that since if you choose automatic it will get everything automatically. I am starting to think it is not router issue it is more ISP related. If you would like I can control your pc and edit the router settings for you via a program called Team Viewer, It is 100% safe & you can stop me at any time. Also I would suggest cal your ISP and see if you can transfer or get a new plan with them. Btw what firmware is your router on? Well there are some things which work better doing it manually. Thats mostly if you have DSL though. I doabt its a ISP issue though. No major ISP in the states block the ports needed for the PS3. And his QoS cap wouldn't keep him from connecting. Kudos for offering remote support, but would not remote support at the router level be easier?
Start > Run > http://192.168.0.1 > Tools > Admin > ADMINISTRATION > Check "Enable Remote Management"
Then Change the password on the same screen to something you will remeber and your routers IP. Never used it before, but that would remove some of the privacy issues.

If that works awesome. I am just trying to get his problems solved asap.

Well I have never actually used it. Your the PS3 expert though. Kudos for helping. Im not on the PS Forums that much since the change. ::grumble::

I have no issues with my A2 (v1.15) unit & ps3 connectivity. I did not touch anything with the router - started up ps3, went through the setup and worked perfectly :D However I did switch from wireless to wired because I like streaming HD movies and wireless could not handle it.
-
I followed the PS3 setup guide on my DGL-4500 f/w 1.22 and it worked for one evening and then the next day I started having the same annoying lag issues in Battlefield Bad Company 2. I didnt change any settings. While I play my roommate is browsing the internet wirelessly so I shouldnt be experiencing this much lag since hes only reading webpages.
I dont know why the connection went to s*** again, I'm pretty fed up with this "gaming" router. I had a better connection on my WBR-2310. Its too bad.
I'm thinking I might just buy a dedicated internet connection for my PS3 and everything else in my house can use a seperate connection.
-
If you followed my guide I found a issue on it. I will put it into my new version of it any ways. The issue started like 2 days later after having my rules set up on it the issue is that when i play call of duty MW2 i get this little lag spike and keeps occurring again and again. I simply started playing with the settings and noticed
the issue went away as soon as i disabled Dynamic Fragmentation. i also changed my connection type to cable or broadband network. This all can be done through Advance>GameFuel. Hope this fixes your lag issues. I am currently trying to fined other improvements. While this might not be a problem for others it might be for some. Please leave your feedback. Also I am on firmware 1.15.
-
I'll give that a try, would be nice if Dlink added in some sort of tool to auto set the settings for each console on the gaming router because this is way too much work to have the connection work properly.
-
I tried it no difference, I think the problem is my roommate surfing the internet, I pay for 25 mbps and have a "gaming" router that is supposed to help with things like "gamefuel" but I really dont think gamefuel does anything at all, just a gimmick. the only solution to have lag free games is to buy my own internet connection so I dont have to share.
DGL-4500 sounded too good to be true.....and it was.

Trust me it, it worked for me. 25 Mbps Is very quick you should experience no lag or issues at all. Please notice to get optimum performance you must connect the PlayStation 3 unit via Ethernet cable. Also GAMEFUEL rules only apply to Ethernet connected devices I so believe. How are you connected to the router? wireless? or Ethernet? I am trying my very best to help you resolve these issues. Have a great day.

I have my PS3 wired directly to the router.
I have run out of options, I have followed the guide on here and I've been on the Phone with Dlink tech, Sony tech, and my ISP and no one knows what the problem is. Something is going on with my network and I have no idea how to diagnose the issue.
I run the PS3 Network test and I get 2-3 Mbps download and maybe 1Mbps upload. This isnt even close to the 20-25 I should be getting.
I'm confused and frustrated with routers in general, I have never had a good experience with routers, they always slow everything up or randomly disconnect you.
I do know my way around the settings and I had it set exactly the same as the guide. It seemed like it work for one evening and then either after I powered down my ps3 or after my roommates started connecting to it the connection turned bad again.....I dont know if my roommates vista laptop is messing with my router or what is going on. Maybe I have a really bad ISP and there is something wrong there? or maybe my modem is garbage? I dont know.
Another note, my router says it is constantly blocking outgoing ICMP packets from my playstation to the primary DNS server, I cant remember the numbers. Is this an issue? and how do I fix that?
-
May I know if you ever tried connecting your Ps3 directly to the modem? If so how did it go? If after you do it and your ps3 get perfect connection you might want to set your PlaySation 3 via the router with DMZ. For DMZ you will need to go to Advanced > Firewall > DMZ Host and put your ps3 static IP address there. Also you may want to try to disable short GI in Advanced > Advanced wireless. What Hardware Version you in? If you are in firmware 1.21 that may also be the problem. It is unstable so I hear. I am not suggesting this but it might be the only way to get you back to decent speeds. I am running firmware 1.15 and it is awesome no need to go higher. But there is a hack going around that lets you downgrade firmware I can't get into details with that sine that is against Policy. But yet again Google is your best friend. Have a great day.
-
Yeah, my PS3 is in the DMZ, it is also in gamefuel and all of the PS3 ports are open in the gaming tab. I also have the IP address reserved through the router as well as set to a static IP through the PS3 menu.
I have connected my PS3 directly to my modem before and the problems were fixed, to connect my PS3 Directly to my modem I need to take away my PS3's static IP address and set everything to automatic or I get DNS errors. Not sure if this is relavant.
I may try googling the old firmware then, I would find if very humorous if old firmware fixed my problem, Dlink might have to reconsider some things.
I'm using firmware 1.22
-
Please notice that if you put your playstation 3 in DMZ and you set up gamefuel it will not work. Since your playstation 3 is in DMZ that means it is outside the routers settings so if you followed my thread and set up all those settings and still had your PS3 in DMZ those settings did take affect. Do you have any instant messaging software were we can chat? if so I use aim maybe you got that add me if you do i am chriz704
-
Ok, I will try taking the PS3 out of the DMZ tonight.
I can get AIM I think. I mostly use Skype though.
I will add you this evening. I live in mountain stardard timezone.
Thanks for the help.
-
I can also assist you via Team Viewer. Since you did not take your ps3 unit out of DMZ the game fuel settings did not apply to it. The whole point of DMZ is to take out a device from router settings. It’s Weird that it did not fix your ps3 issues. I guess furry nutz is taking a break :) (my mentor) The moment I posted this message was at 3:23 Pm I converted the time zone to MST and that means its 12:23 Pm over there so I am 3 hours ahead of you. So I guess I will see you later cya till then.

I think being in the DMZ might be the problem, it seems like gamefuel is the issue because it seems like I only experience bad lag in game when my roommates are browsing and watching videos online. So if I can get gamefuel to work and have my PS3 connection remain stronger while my roommates are online then It should be all good. I might also look into limiting my roommates bandwidth or whatever the correct terminology is, so I can hog it all. lol
I will download team viewer tonight and we can give that a go.
I would really like to get this connection problem fixed before I throw my PS3 remote through my TV screen, I cant stand playing Battlefield and not being able to hit ANYONE and I'm not one to rage quit so I just swear alot threaten to throw my controller haha.
What are ICMP packets and why is the router blocking them? It says they are going from my PS3 to the primary DNS.

Those ICMP packets might be the issue of the lag you are getting. I might be able to resolve that for you. I can't tell you what they are since I am not very familiar with logs since I disable all my logs. For more information on what are ICMP you will need to get in touch with my MENTOR furrtnutz : lol hope he reads this :) He might know but also there is a chance he may not know. Once you set game fuel properly you won't need to limit your roommates because game fuel would do that automatically for you.

ICMP = Internet Control Message Protocol
I tried to read up on them but I don't fully understand the process and what exactly they are or do, hopefully someone on here can explain what they are and verify whether or not they could be causing my lag if they are being blocked. I will paste the exact log message I am getting later tonight.
-
Alright. I see you did some research.
-
I found another thread on here with someone who may have found the solution although with my lack of networking knowledge I'm still not sure how they did it or how their solution can be applied to my problem on the PS3
Hopefully Trikein replies to these messages, or maybe FurryNutz.
In an effort to help others who come across this thread. here is the other thread which may or may not be a possible solution to the ICMP packet blockage problem.

when I type in "ipconfig/all" into my command prompt I get a primary and secondary DNS number. BOTH of which auto fill into my routers information.
I'm going to try:
-pulling my PS3 out of DMZ
-disable DNS relay
-reset the router and do not choose advanced DNS during setup
I'll post my successes and failures.
-
Great I will be here to assist you.
-
I took the PS3 out of the DMZ and im not getting blocked outgoing ICMP anymore but I am getting alot of blocked incoming TCP and UDP from various IPs to my WAN IP
-
I am also getting a lot of blocked TCP And UDP. I would guess it is normal though. I have notice that my A2 unit firmware 1.15 runs hot/warm.
-
Hey guys let me tell you something about this router!
"Did you ever want to make friends in a foreign lands? Buy this router and you'll spend some magic time with Dlink techies! based on who knows where". LOL this made my day i was reading reviews on Neweggs omg I was dieing!! just though I should share with you guys. "Lonely, lots of free time, this router is made for you." I know i know i got off topic but lets have a laugh?
-
What FW version are you on. If you go into Basic/Internet/Manual you should see Advance DNS service option if you are on a later FW version. If I remember Adv DNS is not an option for earlier versions of FW.
Also what happens if you disable or enable DNS relay?
Also, review the gamefuel sticky and try adding the Primary and 2ndary DNS addresses into the same section for Dynamic IP (DHCP) Internet Connection Type and Firewall settings.
-
I am on FW 1.22 and my DNS numbers were automatically populated on the router Basic/Manual Configuration. H
ere is what I found last night.
I made the mistake of putting my PS3 in DMZ, so thanks to LookIntoMyEyees for pointing that out. Taking the PS3 out of DMZ helped alot but there were still a few hiccups. After taking the PS3 out of the DMZ I dont get the blocked outgoing ICMP packets, but I do notice my router blocking ALOT of TCP packets from various IPs to my WAN IP during online gameplay. which may or may not be normal?
So I turned off Advanced DNS service (Basic/Internet/Manual)
and then turned off DNS relay - I have to test this a bit more but my connection has improved since doing these three things.
next I am going to try Dynamic fragmentation on and off.
One question, I've been tempted to copy/paste my log file but what kind of harm could the wrong person do with the information in my log file? Is it safe to post this information?
-
Check the firewall settings. See if they do anything for game play. I'm using EndPoint Independent of both TCP and UDP and have been working well. Yes you will probably see some blocking from various IP addresses from the WAN side and that means the router is doing it's job.
Posting your logs on here is kewl. Others and I as well have done the same. You could edit your log file before you posted if you feel the need to.
-
So last night I tried playing MW2 with dynamic fragmentation on and off, it is hard to test this with any sort of conclusive results but I found that my connection might have been better with dynamic fragmentation OFF. I'm not sure how to test this besides playing games and seeing if the lag improves or doesnt.
I dont trust the PS3 network test, even a Sony Technician told me its pretty innaccurate and correct me if I'm wrong but testing on speedtest.net through the sony browser wouldnt be accurate either.
anyways, its worth a try if you're still tweaking your settings.
-
You can just enable it, reset router then go to speedtest.com via your computer browser and see what you get but it will be hard for you to even tell since your bandwidth is never stable it is always changing at times you can get a 20 download speed & at other times you can get lower or higher. Currently I have mines enable and it is working just right.
-
Oh sorry, don't visit this forum too much anymore.
In a nut shell, ICMP are not important and not causing your lag. Think of them like the clicks the dolphins give out when they use echo location. Its just for testing purposes, their not used to transmit data in anyway. Also, they have a low priority, which means networks don't always respond to them as fast as packets used for streaming video say. This gives a higher latency then actually obtained and...well..
Let me read your actual problem and post before I go on a rant about something irrelevant.
-
I went through and read the thread real quick, be sure to check the questions at the end, here are my comments:
>>I run the PS3 Network test and I get 2-3 Mbps download and maybe 1Mbps upload. This isnt even close to the 20-25 I should be getting.<<
PSN Speedtest thing is BS. Even Sony admits it. Unless you get a error message when it runs, ignore it.
>>But there is a hack going around that lets you downgrade firmware I can't get into details with that sine that is against Policy. But yet again Google is your best friend. Have a great day.<<
I doabt its the firmware. The majority of actual pro's and con's of different firmware are slight. Most are imagined or assumed based on a lack of actual testing.
>>I took the PS3 out of the DMZ and im not getting blocked outgoing ICMP anymore but I am getting alot of blocked incoming TCP and UDP from various IPs to my WAN IP<<
Most likly those blocked packets are just worms and different servers randomling pinging you. Do they seem to happen at one time? Do you see them being block being directed towards the PC? Also, if it happens when your trying to play a game, its probably a issue with your port fowarding. If your comfortable, PM me your logs.
>>If I remember Adv DNS is not an option for earlier versions of FW.<<
Advanced DNS is just configuring the DNS of the router to direct to OpenDNS use a static DNS of 204.194.232.200 and 204.194.234.200. OpenDNS is not a magic bullet though. If your ISP has crappy DNS servers, it can help. Also, it can help with security, since it blacklists a bunch of bad sites/IP. D-link bought OpenDNS a year or two ago, and their actually hosting many ISP's DNS redirect search engines...but I digress..For more info: https://store.opendns.com/get/basic
>>next I am going to try Dynamic fragmentation on and off.<<
Keep dynamic fragmentation off. Only turn that on if your Upload cap is below...500Kbps.
Questions:
1. Does your PC have issues when your PS3 is online? Slow internet?
2. What is your actual symtom? All games? At all times?
3. Is there ever a time where it works really well?
