I recently purchased the DSM-750 and using it as a media lounge with Tversity as the media server.
I can access(Wireless) all my videos, pictures, music, rss feeds and url videos, works great. My only problem is in the Network settings where direct internet conections shows connecting....and then disconnected. I cannot perform any updates...(error: there is a problem with your internet connection, please check your connections).
My router is the DIR-655, security is WPA2 AES. Is there something I need to do with my router for it to connect to the internet directly?
Is this one of the faulty DSM-750s that I have heard about..??
Thanks.

I know you will probably be insulted by this question, but I have to ask it otherwise I would not be properly troubleshooting the problem with you.... Are there any computers on the router that do have access to the internet and if so what is there IP addresses?
-
All computers/Laptops (wired and wireless) can access to the internet and LAN (3 wireless and 3 wired). As I stated everything works within the WLAN for the DSM-750 (I can access all my videos, music and photo files) but access to the internet directly gives an error. My ip address was changed to 10.xxx.xxx.1 for the router. All ip configurations are setup correctly.
When used with the Tversity Media Server I can access all Rss feeds and internet Video URLs (Tversity also can access the internet).

Should I return this DSM-750??

Distance may be a factor, how far is the 750 from the main router?
You might even want to lower or disable security to stop the frequent connection drops.
So the DMS -750 drops the connection? if so assign a static IP adress to the unit within the range of the router 10.xxx.xxx.xxx
please let us know.. thanks

Distance may be a factor, how far is the 750 from the main router? The DSM-750 shows a connection speed between 270-300 at all times.
You might even want to lower or disable security to stop the frequent connection drops. This is not an option, I do not want to do this.
So the DMS -750 drops the connection? if so assign a static IP adress to the unit within the range of the router 10.xxx.xxx.xxxIt does not drop connection, I just does not connect to the internet directly. I think this is the only way to receive firmware updates. through a direct connetion to the internet through the router.
please let us know.. thanks
Do I need to open any ports on the router???
Thanks.
-
I am not aware of any ports on the router that would need to be opened, however if you wanted to you could DMZ the IP of the DSM through the router and see if that helps at all.
-
No ports are required to be open.
Have you tried it wired?
-
I am also seeing this and hopefully someone has the answer

Yes I have tried wired and it works (Internet Connection: (Connected). This only happens in Wireless mode...
-
Any feedback on this problem????
-
Yes it seems there is an odd compatibility issue with some routers connecting wirelessly we are currently looking into this issue. Have you tried this without wireless security? Do you see the same issue?

I tried wired and it connects fine with internet
But when wireless it does not
BTW, my wireless router is DIR-655
-
Yes that is the issue when connected wirelessly even with our routers. Live365 and other online content should still work fine I just tried Live365 and it works it is just an issue connecting to the update server it seems. Currently there is no update so I am not sure what will happen when one is available at this time.

Thanks for the update ECF. I hope there will be an update to fix this and that those affected will be able to do the update manually...
-
I am having the same problem but with a wired connection. I always gets Internet Connection: Disconnected under network settings. If i try to force a check for an update under system options, I get the following message:
"The Device Could Not Download Updates"
"System Updates could Not check for updates because of a network problem. Please check your network connections."
The router I am using is a D-Link ebr-2310 Hardware Ver: a2 Firmware: 1.05
I have added the IP of the DSM-750 to the DMZ with the same results. I use TVersity to browse my material, but have used D-Links Media Server also, and both work with no problems. Do I possibly have a defective unit? I know there was an issue with some using windows media center and the extender feature, but I don't use that, so I am not sure if it could be related to the same problem. Thanks.
PS I also have a DSM-520 that is using a wired connection. It connects to the internet with no problems and can find it's updates when available.
-
Bee-iLL it may be related to setup issue. without trouble shooting I cannot say you may want to contact technical support it can then be determined if the unit is defective.

Shows connected correctly now with the new firmware update which it was able to download with no problems. Must have been an issue with the shipped firmware.

do you mean that you are connected with wired only or you can connect with both wired and wireless?
-
Wireless still disconnected, not fix here.

I am only using a Wired connection. Not sure on the wireless, dont need to use it

Did you upgrade your DIR-655 to the lastest firmware (1.20), is security set to WPA-AES on both the router and DSM-750?????
Is the router set to wireless N ONLY????

i just checked.. the wireless connection is fine if its WEP and when its WPA it is not working
-
Yeah that is the issue we are looking into it is when using WPA wireless security. It should be OK with WEP or none.

How did you install the latest firmware when you are disconnected from the internet?
I am unable to connect to the internet to perform the latest firmware update. Further, I cannot find any alternate method on the DSM-750 to install the update. I was dumbfounded to discover that there isn't an alternate method other than the internet. It is hard to understand why one can't copy the firmware update file to a USB disk and install it from there.
My DSM-750 is wired directly to an access point on a Linksys WRT600n. The firewall is disabled. I also have a DSM-520 and I never experienced any problem with updates even over a wireless connection.

You have 2 options:
1. Have a wired connection and update your DSM-750
2. Switch your wireless to WEP and then update your DSM-750
I used the first option to update the firmware

As I stated in my post, I am already directly wired to an access point on the router! The DSM-750 refuses to connect to the internet for updating although other programs in the Windows Media Center have no problem accessing the internet. I think this is a major bug in DLink's firmware. What is most irritating is that no other option is provided, e.g. putting the firmware code on the USB storage.
-
In fact you can install it from a USB drive. You have to unzip the .zip file and put both of the files from the .zip onto the USB drive. You will then see an option in the medialounge main menu saying "new firmware update" or something like that.

That's how I updated my firmware, download firmware from here; http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DSM%2D750.

Many thanks for the confirmation that it is possible to do the update using the USB!
I would like to mention two important details for the update to take place:
The DSM-750-VerInfo.txt file must also be on the USB drive and both files must be on the root of the drive and not in a subfolder!
My first try was only placing the update file and not the txt file. My second try was copying the folder over which also failed. The third try was both files stored on the root.
There is no mention of this method of performing the update in the manual and also in any of the knowledge base entries! I guess DLink developers must think this information is gained by ESP!
After update 1.01.16 was installed the internet connection is now connected. The initial problem is now solved!

frischma, don't feel too bad. I never found that FAQ either, and I tried unsuccessfully with a USB key at first as well. The way I found out is by asking someone who had managed to do it at another forum. So this was just my opportunity to return that favour :)

I agree. One shouldn't have to guess there is another method using the USB port. This should have been described in the manual. The art of writing good manuals is a lost art.

Same here. My new DSM-750 would not connect to the internet wirelessly. I manually update the firmware to the latest version and my wireless internet is so sweet its like a fat girl offering to share her cake with you. Plus I picked up a whole bunch of internet media buttons to go visit.
