OK guys I want to pick your brains.
I moved my XBOX 360 about 10 feet and have been getting loading "time outs" or whatever it's called when I click on a feature to watch on XBL. For example, I was wanting to see the clip on Black Ops Escalation.
It keeps stopping and having to load and it rarely if ever did that where it was located before. Also, I'll get disconnects every so often.
If I check the signal bars in settings for XBL, I have 3 out of 4 lit up. Sometimes it's 4 lit up. But I guess I don't know the quality of signal, either.
Any suggestions? I'm running wireless N and G mixed and have the 360 slim.

There is a possibility it could be increased traffic to XBL since PSN is down. Did this seem to happen around the time the PSN went down? Or just after moving it 10feet? If only after moving it, try moving it back and seeing if it continues. If it problem goes away instantly, and returns when you move it back, its probably some sort of wireless echo or interference. If the problem stays, probably just a bandwidth issue on XBL's part.

I think it might be both, distance and XBL. Man I just played a couple of hours on XBL/MW2 and what a k r a p y night for gaming. Talk about networking and lagging. Wow. Could not keep my party together. Would lose 1-3 people. If we did get into a game, seem like every game or other game would be crazy lag. Really hope they fix it. Keep us posted on your results. Night.

try
wireless N mode only.
20 MHZ channel
Auto channel scan
-
Thanks guys. XCO FTW!
I tried his suggested settings because it was the easiest, first thing to do.
I tried my old setup first and got the lagging and loading, then changed settings to 20MHZ, wireless N only (had channel scan enabled already). Saved settings but didn't reboot the router. However, I did lose connection as if the router rebooted. Maybe it did, I dunno, it's in the other room.
But, so far, so good. Will keep you posted.

Need to play more MW2 man. :o Hehe. Hope this works better for you.

Yay, means you'll be online gaming tonight then! ::)

With all the money Xbox makes don't you think there servers would be able to handle the load by now? I mean didn't there network went down for the same reason a while back? Well honestly I was playing some halo 3 with my brother, didn't really enjoy the animated death. But I had fun overall.

Bad news, it's back to where it was. :(
I'll try the other, more involved suggestions now. LOL!

any chance you can put this on wired connection?
-
It has to go through another wall and the "echo" suggestion sounds, well.....sound.
I think I'm going to move my router and cable modem closer to my XBOX and give that a shot.
Normally, I would be able to run it wired (and I still may try that) but I moved my console off of our TV in our bedroom and into a sitting area where I do my work stuff.
I'll get back to ya. ;D

OK, I wired my 360 and my PS3.
I think our interior walls must be made of lead. :D
So far, so good, but I moved the modem and router into our bedroom. Now I'll need some black electrical tape to put over the LED's so they don't light up the room at night.

OMG man. LOL.
So Single mode G would not work on 2.4Ghz?

Some black magic market may work too. Still let through enough light to troubleshoot, but make it less. Test it on some small bit of one of the less important lights, or with something that washes off, first though.

Furry, I dunno, didn't test just "G" band. :o
But now the router is 10 feet from my gaming desktop and I have it (DGL4500) wired to my XBOX. It's incredible! I've never had my speed tests for my desktop go over 20mbps but they're between 25 and 30mbps now.
I'm finally getting my money's worth!!!
Harry, thanks for the magic marker suggestion. You're right, if I need to remove it, rubbing alcohol takes it right off.
G'night guys, I'm off to bed.

Just an update. I counted the walls that the wireless signal had to go through and it was at least 4.....and the wall nearest the router was chock full of DVD's.
My router is now on the farthest end of the house from our game room, but the wireless signal is making it there, thank goodness.

That quiet a lot of material to go thru. Specially for 5Ghz. 2.4Ghz should make it most of the way, however the more material you have, the more interference. Why I like wired. ::)
